"Island of Terror"(1966)? They weren't aliens but the creatures looked alien. They were created by a scientist and they were legless and had a protruding tentacle, below is a clip featuring one of the creatures. There is a scene where the creatures, called 'silicates', feed on some cattle that have been injected with something which is deadly to these creatures, so that they can be killed.

Could this be 1966's Island of Terror [LINK] starring Peter Cushing? Here's a clip on YouTube [this video] which has a creature being attacked with an axe before splitting into two creatures. The axe attack starts at about 1:15 in the video. The creatures are called "silicates" in the film and look very much as you described. I wonder if you're remembering the silicates from Island of Terror ? [LINK] Details which fit the description: With the long tentacle up front they look vaguely ostrich-like, with a "shell" body. They do kill with a touch (injecting a bone-dissolving enzyme, according to the Universal Monsters wiki [LINK] ). What doesn't fit: The monsters in the film don't have legs. Every version of this I've seen is in color, not black-and-white. I don't know if the original was b&w. A clip of the monsters in action [this video]
