Why Arduino Stack Exchange recommends it

Arduino Stack Exchange users link it as evidence that WebSockets on the ESP8266 give fast, low-latency communication and as a practical example of using them.

What it is

A short demo by CNLohr showing WebSockets running on the ESP8266 Wi-Fi microcontroller. The author explains why he finds WebSockets useful and points to his esp8266ws2812i2s LED tool and ColorChord project, both of which use them for their web interfaces.

If you use websocket it will have a really good response time. It is a test about it: [this video] I use it for a quadcopter controller.

The Arduino in combination with a wifi/ethernet module will not give you a lot of options to work with. There are currently no libraries that will give you features like including stylesheets, AJAX or websockets. If your project allows it, due to the number of I/O pins you need etc: replace your Arduino with a ESP8266 If you want to produce something fancy: go with the ESP8266. Getting everything setup and working will be a bit harder than with the Arduino, but it will be worth the effort. You can program it in Lua, but that will only give you access to some basic functions. Just write your program in C like you did on the Arduino. There is a thing called Sming framework which allows you to

At the moment, I'm using various operating systems and devices like the Raspberry pi to control lights and other stuff over websockets. I use websockets since they added the support on Chrome. I write a lot of Javascript stuff for fun. Websockets allow you to communicate with another server without the need of reloading a page. It's a lot better than Ajax. Once the connection is open with a web server data can travel both ways. No unnecessary headers to send. No unnecessary requests. You just send only the data you want, this in both directions. AND FAST, DAMN FAST. For example I use Javascript's requestAnimationframe to send RGB values (based on music frequency) to lamps connected to the ne
