Why Stack Overflow recommends it
Stack Overflow users link it as a reference when answering or asking about DOM behavior, event bubbling and capturing, and why JavaScript libraries are written the way they are.

What it is

Take a look here [this video] If you add an element to the DOM, the page will be repainted. If you add 100 elements one by one, it will be repainted 100 times, and that's slow. Create a single container and add nodes for the items to it before appending it to your page. var container = $('<div>'); $.each(items, function (index, itm) { var el = $('<div>'); el.attr('id', ID_PREFIX + index); el.html(createHtml(itm)); container.append(el); }); $('#list-container').append(container); Something like the above (using jQuery, but you can be fine with plain JS). (of course createHtml is an utility function you can define to get the markup for your item and items is the array with your data) That said, I a

@BenAston: Here's the closest I can get to a reference for now. It's Douglas Crockford's talk on the DOM and he describes the evolution of the event loop: [this video]

One reason, noted by Douglas Crockford in his lecture The Metamorphosis of Ajax [this video] , is that developers of JavaScript libraries can conditionally add utility methods, for example something like string.split, such that it will only be added to an object's prototype if it is not already defined by the standard libraries provided by the browser.

Is `triclkling` the same as `capturing`? Crockford talks about `Trickling v. Bubbling` in this video talk - [this video] around `1 hr 5 minutes`.
