What it is

A 33-minute tutorial by Richard Lloyd on connecting a second home router to a main router over a LAN cable on stock Netgear or TP-Link firmware. It covers giving the second router a static LAN IP outside the main DHCP range, turning off its DHCP server, and extending Wi-Fi coverage.

While this isn't a repeater / bridge setup, this is an alternative solution to have two routers on the same network. It worked out better than a bridge setup for me: [this video] In my home network, I have an older router that maintains the connection to the ISP, and a newer router that's used for wifi. I've put them on separate channels (1 and 6 respectively), and then stopped broadcasting the SSID name for the older router. It's proved effective thus far.

I wondered if the two ghost signals might be rebroadcasts of the primary router's two SSIDs (one for each band), but probably not. This router is a secondary router connected to a primary router by ethernet. The ethernet cable is in a LAN port on the secondary router, not its WAN port. The setup follows the instructions in this video: [this video] . (The secondary router's LAN IP address is outside the range of available addresses allowed to the primary router's DHCP server, and the secondary router's DHCP server is turned off.) I discovered my speeds were no better with the secondary router, so I switched back to the original, separate 5GHz SSID of the primary router and turned the secondary rou

I recently followed a guide how to use an old router to extend my network at home. [this video] Everything was smooth, made sure the range I have set the DHCP Server won't conflict with anything (Main Router, from my ISP.) I've used 192.168.1.30 - 192.168.1.254 . Moving on to the old router. I've disabled it's DHCP so it wouldn't conflict with the server, set the old router's IP Address as 192.168.1.15 . I've setup the wireless options as well, made sure it has a different SSID, even changed the channel selection so it wouldn't collide with anything. The LAN interface works, at the moment I'm connected to it as I'm typing this question. The only problem I've had is whenever an I try to connect to

If your Chromecast uses Ethernet cable, then the casting device (PC, Tablet) must also use Ethernet cable. For example, this will work (tested and work on a Windows PC, successfully cast Youtube, Dailymotion,...): step 1: Connect your ChromeCast with the Ethernet cable. step 2: Connect your PC with the Ethernet cable. step 3: On your PC, open Google Chrome (not Firefox, only Google Chrome, because Google Chrome has cast feature), open a video on Youtube, then you should see the cast button that can cast to your ChromeCast. There is a useful article [LINK] about this. New discovery, I was wrong. Chromecast does work over Ethernet cable. I can cast from my smartphone to my Chromecast when my C
