First thing first. I'm glad you are leaving JSP that thing sucks. Now, Welcome to the Angular world! If you aren't very good at the backend you should take a look to firebase. That way you won't have to set up a sockets.io. Firebase is already a real time database. Right here you can learn how to build a chat using firebase and angular. I'm trying to realize a chat functionality by using Angular for the frontend and Cloud Functions with Cloud Firestore for the backend. Frontend and Firestore only communicates through Cloud Functions. A question by the way, is that a good approach? My problem right know is to make it possible that my frontend updates in realtime, if one of the chatrooms my user is in receives a new message. A chatroom is limited for two users, but a user can have many chatrooms with other users. My code: Cloud Functions: chatroomsEndpoint.js: const chatroomsCollection = db.collection("chatrooms"); exports.getAllChatroomsByUserId = async function (req, res) { try { let chatrooms = []; // console.log(req.param

I am creating a chat application where a user can start multiple chats with a different person (just like the rest of the other chat apps). I'm using Swift with Cloud Firestore . My database design is the following: Chat collection: [ "chatMember": ["member1", "member2"], "createdAt" : Date().timeIntervalSince1970, "meesages" : [] ] One chat room will have 'messages' array and it will have message dictionaries aka an object. Below code is where I am trying to append the message dictionary to the messages array . The Firebase doc introduces .arrayUnion() < LINK [LINK] to the document>. But it gives me an error saying, " Contextual type '[Any]' cannot be used with dictionary literal " @IBActio
