What it is
A 27-minute Flutter tutorial by RetroPortal Studio showing how to create and run Android background and foreground services by writing native code and connecting it to Flutter via method channels. It walks through a working example, with source code on GitHub, aimed at use cases like a music player.

When I build my Flutter app, this error shows: error: incompatible types: MainActivity cannot be converted to FlutterEngine GeneratedPluginRegistrant.registerWith(this); I went to the github of class and saw the difference: [LINK] If I put this in my project, when I build application, my class change automatically for this: package io.flutter.plugins; import androidx.annotation.Keep; import androidx.annotation.NonNull; import io.flutter.embedding.engine.FlutterEngine; /** * Generated file. Update: I have created my own implementation of android foreground service for Flutter called android_long_task [LINK] . check it out it solved my problem. let me know if it solves your problem by raising an issue.I created my own library because the tutorial I mentioned just shows how to create a foreground service in java and that's all and as you have found out by now the other foregorund_service plugins have some problems. Old answer (didn't help me): if you're having a problem with this and none of the libraries mentioned in other answers worked for you. you might wanna give this tutorial [this video] from RetroPortal Studio a try. it's a total of 26 minutes which teaches you how to write a

Working in the background is not something very simple to do with dart, you will need some native code as described in this video [this video] .

I have a need for running some code in the background. Specifically, I must listen to Bluetooth data from a connected device and listen for location changes and be able to process that data. I am interested in how you will handle this problem? After some investigation, I learn the following ways for running code in the background: 1. Foreground service [this video] Problems: Native code - need to transfer code for the Bluetooth handling to Native code iOS don't have foreground service 2. Flutter background_fetch [LINK] Problems: There is no way to increase the rate in which a fetch-event occurs and this plugin sets the rate to the most frequent possible — you will never receive an event faster th

I am developing a Flutter app for academic purposes in university. Now, I need to run a sort of "always on" background service in order to use Bluetooth and most importantly to get periodic updates from external REST APIs. I've already checked those two libraries from pub.dev ( this [LINK] and this [LINK] ) without finding the perfect solution that works out-of-the-box (as expected...). I also saw something native with Kotlin ( here [this video] ). What I would to know is what is the best option in order to achieve my goals (in terms of best practices, completeness and with simplicity in mind). Have a look at the following image for a more schematic view: [LINK]

My suggestion is you make use of platform specific code. I use Java to interact with my flutter app. As soon as you achieve this, you could specify certain actions on detection of any of the action words. class Dashboard extends StatefulWidget { @override State<StatefulWidget> createState() => _DashboardState(); } class _DashboardState extends State<Dashboard> { SpeechRecognition _speechRecognition; bool _isAvailable = false; bool _isListening = false; String resultText = ""; static const platform = const MethodChannel("com.example.javaConnect/javaConnect"); void test() async { String value; try{ value = await platform.invokeMethod("startService"); // startService is the method used in the J

I am developing a Flutter application for Android, which sends daily notifications. To keep things local, I tried to implement this using Android background services. I followed this tutorial: [this video] import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Build; import android.os.Bundle; import androidx.annotation.NonNull; import io.flutter.plugin.common.MethodCall; import io.flutter.plugin.common.MethodChannel; import io.flutter.embedding.android.FlutterActivity; import io.flutter.app.FlutterActivity; import io.flutter.plugin.common.MethodChannel; import io.flutter.plugins.GeneratedPluginRegistrant; public class MainActivity extends FlutterActivity { private Intent foreService; @Override protecte

The plugins available right now didn't work properly for me when I was trying to implement background and foreground notifications. So I ended up writing native code for that part. You can watch this for more reference : [this video]

When setting the background color to transparent , you can see the view still has a black background because of the default setting of the Android app theme. You need to modify the config to achieve total transparent, which is: Then adding transparent to the launching intent here: import android.os.Bundle import androidx.annotation.N
