Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it when asking how to monitor, stop, restart or expose metrics for Spring Integration endpoints and channels through JMX.

Recommended by 2 people across 2 different months, 2013 to 2019.

What it is

A SpringOne 2GX 2012 conference session by Gary Russell on managing and monitoring Spring Integration applications. It covers the JMX support (the Integration MBean Exporter, the Control Bus, JMX adapters), the Spring Insight plugin, message history and orderly shutdown in Spring Integration 2.2.

Reading your post I instantly thought of this video [this video] . Which gives a good insight on how to monitor and control SI application through itself. Additionally you should have a look at ApplicationEvent [LINK] documentation of SI. Glueing that all together you could monitor the JMS message adapter with JMX and stop and restart it through sending an ApplicationEvent on issues. Regarding catching exceptions it depends on what Exceptions you actually want to handle. I'd create an errorChannel that receives exceptions being thrown by components and create a new service that restarts these components after receiving errors. Following your idea leveraging Spring Retry [LINK] 's capabilites in S

Are you able to leverage JMX? If you can, I think there's a way to stop the channels via JMX. You can check this webinar for more information [this video] but the idea is that there is already some MBean functionality that exposes statistics and operations over all of the spring-integration elements.

I have created a Spring Integration application with Spring Boot. I would like to know how to configure JMX with Spring Boot. I believe by default JMX is configured when using Spring Boot Actuator. Do I need to configure anything else to be able to export MBeans for Spring Integration? Most of the example I see have the following line in the applicationContext.xml <context:mbean-export/> <context:mbean-server/> My Application.java class looks like this. package com.jbhunt.app.consumerappointmentintegration; import org.springframework.boot.SpringApplication; import org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.EnableAutoConfiguration; import org.springframework.context.annotation.ComponentScan; impo

I'm looking for an easy way on some of my flows to be able to log when some "event" occurs. In my simple case an "event" might be whenever any message flows down a channel, or whenever a certain # of messages flow down a channel, I'd like to print out some info to a log file. I know there currently is a logging-channel-adapter but in the case just described I'd need to be able to tailor my own log message and I'd also need to have some sort of counter or metrics keeping track of things (so the expression on the adapter wouldn't suffice since that grants access to the payload but not info about the channel or flow). I'm aware that Spring Integration already exposes a lot of metrics to JMX via
