Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it because it was the official Play intro video on the framework's site, so many people follow it and then ask questions when their setup or version differs from the tutorial.

What it is

A roughly 21-minute introduction to the Play Framework for Java developers, published on the official Typesafe (now Lightbend) channel. It walks through building a small web app from the play-java template, covering forms, a database, and returning JSON consumed by client-side code.

I also have trouble with the automatic binding feature... There is an example of how you can use the JSON file in this video tutorial: [this video] , but I know this is not what you're looking for.

I use the ".get()" method at the end, which is supposed to return an object of type "Users". This is exactly what is done in the Play! Framework for Java Developers introduction video : [this video]

I have been struggling with exactly the same problem: bindFromRequest returned nulls for "name" field. I did exactly the same what a guy in this Play for Java introduction video did: [this video] . But still no luck. I've been working on Windows 7 with JDK 1.8. IDE: Eclipse 4.4.0. And I run activator through cygwin. This is what solved the problem for me: In Eclipse: Project -> Build Automatically - > turn off In cygwin: ./activator clean; ./activator compile; ./activator run; After this, bindFromRequest binds name correctly and puts it into the database.

I'm trying to follow the 'Introduction to Play Framework' [this video] video, and the following happens: The SBT is however installed: Downloaded the latest edition from JetBrains plugins and installed manually from disk - the in-app browser didn't seem to find it. Any thoughts ?

I'm a bit new to web-development and the Play framework in particular, I just have seen several Play tutorials, and every single tutorial I have seen so far returns a list of models as JSON to the client and then constructs the HTML list out of JSON with JavaScript (translated CoffeeScript) on the client side. Why not just add a code to our HTML view that would do a for-loop and print the list of those models on the server-side? It seems to be a lot easier, intuitive and less error prone. Here is one such Play tutorial, the official one from the Play webpage. [this video]

Im having trouble using MySqL to work with Play 2.4 For example if I create an app with activator based on the "play-java-intro" template (see details below) which corresponds to the video [LINK] shown on the start page of playframework.com [LINK] , things work fine so far. This is however using an in memory h2 database. When I try to modify the project to use mysql instead, I get the "Execution exception": --- (Running the application, auto-reloading is enabled) --- [info] p.a.l.c.ActorSystemProvider - Starting application default Akka system: application [info] p.c.s.NettyServer - Listening for HTTP on /0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:9000 (Server started, use Ctrl+D to stop and go back to the console...)

I wanted to start a bit using the play framework (2.4.4) and wanted to follow a tutorial. I was following this youtube video [this video] from their site, using the play-java template and importing it to IntelliJ 15, but after starting the server and checking the project out in the browser, I get the error: error: package play.* does not exist I also tried to just download the finished introduction project here [LINK] and test it, but I stil get the similiar error: error: package play.mvc does not exist Am I missing something (plugin, package or so) that I forgot to include/install/update? Thanks in advance.

I'm realtively new to Play and am trying to walk through the exercise in the intro Youtube video ( [this video] ). I'm doing a couple of things differently. 1) I'm using a more recent version of Play (2.5 something). I'm also using JPA instead of eBean for my persistence layer and a local Postgres DB rather than the h2 In memory DB. That shouldn't affect my issue, though. Basically, I have added a "/persons" GET endpoint that returns the people in my Person table in JSON format. I have confirmed this works and is returning valid JSON. However, My JQuery doesn't seem to be reaching it. Based on the tutorial, I have written my query in Coffeescript and am now inspecting the Javascript that it's com
