As Google Analytics is being replaced by Firebase Analytics, you want to look at the new Firebase plugin [LINK] for Android Studio. Here the video presenting it: [this video]

I think could give it a look to the new UI Designer & Constraint Layout [this video] in Android Studio 2.2 Preview, It may help to create your layout quickly and easily, just using drag and drop. If you want to try to reduce the method count, or at least you want to understand the difference from release to debug, I suggest you try looking at the dex count available in AS 2.2 preview 5, they had a youtube video (maybe from google IO) that made it pretty easy to count your methods. This is only for counting methods, if you still use the same buildToolsVersion "23.0.3" you should get the exact same apk file in both versions of AS (apart from the fact that AS 2.2 ships with its own version of JDK, which is not supposed to get in your way). Disclaimer: I have never used that tool apart from playing with it, so I wouldn't know what to recommend after you actually find a culprit there. EDI

Background Google has announced a new layout called " ConstraintLayout [LINK] " that's supposed to be the ultimate layout, that could replace all of the layouts while staying flat (without nested layouts) and have better performance. The problem Thing is, I barely see any tutorials for it that could help me on this matter, other than the video presented on Google IO. What I am trying to do is, given that I have a vertically-centered LinearLayout within another layout - convert them both into a single ConstraintLayout. After all, this is the purpose of this new layout... The layout I wish to deal with looks like this: [LINK] Notice that the views in the center are only centered vertically, an

As described in the Google I/O session 'What's new in Android development tools' [this video] , we can access the 'Record Espresso Test' from the 'Run' menu. Unfortunately this item is not available in Android Studio 2.2 Preview 1, and might be made available in a future release.

I want to use the new tools android-studio 2.2 has to offer : Convert to Android system permissions Infer Annotations However, i can't see those tools in the menu. I've tried restart, selecting other files, selecting the whole project, but - no luck so far - i still not able to see those entries in the menu. I'm using Android Studio 2.2 Preview 1 Build #AI-145.2878421, built on May 17, 2016 I've been folowing the guide on the official site : [LINK] and the i/o guide (the tools are described at around the time 21:00) [this video] [LINK]
Cites Tim · 2016-05 · Stack Overflow · on “Can't find 'Convert to Android system permissions' and 'Infer Annotations' under Analyse menu”
Convert to android system permission At 21:45 [this video] he says "This is still a work in progress". The feature is not done yet, therefore you cannot find it in the IDE. Infer annotations At 21:10 [this video] he says that this functionality is behind "a flag". It is unclear which flag, or how to enable it. It is also discussed here [LINK] on reddit, but no conclusive results yet. The experimental thing they mention there is not related to these features. I waited for the release of 2.2 preview 2, but they are not in there either. It can be safely assumed that both these features will be released with future versions of android studio.
Cites Rockney · 2016-06 · Stack Overflow · on “Where to check for Android Permissions?”
In Android studio 2.2 a new feature is implemented to make it easier to move your app to SDK 23. It is still work in progress howerver. It is shown here [this video] . It adds an option to the refactor menu, which automatically implements the necessary permission checks.
