I would do it the following way: public class MyActivity extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); //new GetUrl().execute(20); // Test XML Files //testXMLFiles(); final Button speakButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.play); speakButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(final View v) { // TODO: DO something! } }); final ObjectAnimator horizontalAnimator = ObjectAnimator.ofInt(new ButtonAnimatorHelper(speakButton), "marginLeft", 0, 600); horizontalAnimator.setDuration(2000); horizontalAnimator.setRepeatCount(ValueAnimator.INFINITE); horizontalAnimat

Have You seen this session on animation of views [this video] ? It gives good explanation and examples of usage of property animation.

Google I/O 2013 A Moving Experience [this video] This session introduce similar example. You can fix the image location of Activity B or sending animation result layout from activity A to B using intent extra.

Checking if savedInstanceState == null is the correct way to handle this. This Google I/O 2013 talk [this video] describes the technique.

It is not possible to do a card flip animation between activities as simply as stated in the accepted answer (which just expands the new activity from the middle of the screen to the sides). The reason for that, is that when calling overridePendingTransition() , you are just applying an animation to the activity that starts , not to the one that is currently open. In the (very good) tutorial that is linked to, there are 4 animations in total, which is 2 animations per transition (one for the fragment that's entering the screen, and one for the fragment that's exiting the screen). Here is how I solved that problem and made a flip card animation between my 2 activities, but it is very custom t
