Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear, it seems like the direct answer to what you are asking would be this question [LINK] . But, looking at your question, it seems like your end goal is learning how to display alert dialogs in Flutter, in that case, the question I linked above is a better resource than the one you sent. The Flutter team also released a video about BuildContext here [this video] If you want to get the example working, move the code that uses _context_ within a scope that has access to it, i.e. the build method.

BuildContext represents the location of a widget within the widget tree. It is an important concept that allows widgets to access and interact with other widgets and resources in the application. Documentation: A handle to the location of a widget in the widget tree. BuildContext objects are passed to WidgetBuilder functions (such as StatelessWidget.build), and are available from the State.context member. Some static functions (e.g. showDialog, Theme.of, and so forth) also take build contexts so that they can act on behalf of the calling widget, or obtain data specifically for the given context. I recommend this short video it's a very good explanation of the buildContext. short video [VIDEO

Great question. Functionally there is not much difference. To dig deeper, perhaps this video helps to answer this question. [LINK] To understand why we love widgers check also (tl;dr: its more about optimization) [this video]

You must get arguments value from the build method of the target page. This is a simplified example static Route<dynamic>? routeGenerator(RouteSettings settings) { switch (settings.name) { case '/orangePage': return MaterialPageRoute( builder: (context) => OrangePage(), settings: settings, ); } } Navigator.pushNamed(context, '/orangePage', arguments: 50); class OrangePage extends StatelessWidget { @override Widget build(BuildContext context) { int value = ModalRoute.of(context)!.settings.arguments as int; return Scaffold(body: Center(child: Text(value))); } } More info : [LINK] About BuildContext object : [this video]
