Cake gives you a great solution for these problems with function isAuthorized(). You can learn it from here [this video] or you can read it from documentation [LINK] . public function isAuthorized($data){ return true; }

Well, you can use isAuthorized() function from AuthComponent . It's being called with every request. public function isAuthorized($user){ return true; //allow the user to see the page } You can debug($user) to see the actual data and if you want "new" information from your database, you can always get them like this: public function isAuthorized($user){ $current_user_from_database = $this->User->findById($user['id']); if($current_user_from_database['User']['username'] != $user['username']){ $this->Session->setFlash('You\'ve changed the username. Please, login again.'); $this->redirect($this->Auth->logout); return false; } return true; } Look at the API [LINK] for more info and from the PDF b

I followed Andrew Perkins excellent tutorial [this video] on setting up permissions in CakePHP 2.0. My question, however, relates to how to use the allow and deny method in the Pages controller. Currently I have $this->Auth->allow('display') which allows all methods in the Pages controller to be view. What if I only want the home page allowed but the rest denied? How do I code that? Thanks in advance.

I was stuck with the same issue for hours. Set the login action in the beforeFilter of your AppController as following: $this->Auth->loginAction = array('controller'=>'yourcontollername', 'action'=>'login'); I followed the video [this video] , see the first reply.

Try with this tutorial, it's really great: [this video] And one more thing... Check for mod_rewrite. Is it working?

Now, if you have properly set the Auth Component [LINK] with Client Model, i mean that one client can not modify other client, but you need to cross check for the website they are editing belongs to them or not this might help.. public function _check_member($client,$website){ $this->loadModel('Website'); $options = array( 'conditions' => array('Website.client_id' => $client,'Website.id' => $website), 'recursive' => 0 ); $website = $this->Website->find('first', $options); if($website){ return true; }else{ return false; } } and you will call the function with $this->_check_member($client_id,$website_id); Now only to the client this website belongs to will return 1. But if your clients are abl

Auth is probably one of the most confusing parts of CakePHP when first introduced, You need to change 'username'=>'username' to 'username'=>'email' Below is a snippet out of one of my current projects, we use the email field instead of the username. I would also suggest this video on CakePHP 2.0 Auth : [this video] The Video Tutorials helped me a lot when beginning with CakePHP. public $components = array( 'Auth' => array( 'loginAction' => array( 'controller' => 'user', 'action' => 'signin' ), 'loginRedirect' => '/', 'authError' => 'Did you really think you are allowed to see that?', 'userModel' => 'User', 'authenticate'=>array( 'Form'=>array( 'fields'=>array( 'username'=>'email', 'password'=>'pa

I developed an app locally with Cakephp 2.8 over MAMP and testing with Chrome. I implemented users login with Auth component following the manual and a tutorial [this video] . Everything worked well, but when I finished the app I tried to login in Safari and Firefox, and it didn't work. I get the authentication error with a wrong password but with the right one, login redirects me to the home page (the index of my Jugadores controller) and the actions protected by Auth can never be accessed, I'm asked to login over and over like the if session is never created. When I deployed my app in a live server, it worked in no browser, this makes me think I'm doing something wrong but I'm can't find what.

I'm struggling with the concept of creating an admin section in CakePHP-project. (version 2.3.5) I have uncommented the line in Config/core.php: Configure::write('Routing.prefixes', array('admin')); I have added the line in Config/routes.php: (Just as they advice to do in CakePHP cookbook.) Router::connect('/admin', array('controller'=>'pages', 'action'=>'index','admin' => true)); In AppController.php I have the following: public $components = array( 'Session', 'Auth' => array( 'loginRedirect'=>array('controller'=>'pages','action'=>'index', 'admin'=>true), 'logoutRedirect'=>array('controller'=>'pages','action'=>'display','home'), 'authError'=>'you have no access.', 'authorize'=>array('Contro

I am using this tutorial to add an Authentication and Authorization component to my app. The problem is that all the tutorials I find only assume that a user will only have one role. In the attached video, the roles is simply an enum field in the users table. What I have is three tables: The Users table Roles Table Responsibilities Table A table to link Roles and Responsibilities A table to link Users and Roles I have the log in process working, up to getting the roles for the logged in user. What is the best method to do this? Does anyone know of a tutorial that includes this as well? I am using Cake 2.5.2 I can post what ever code you might think relevant, but I have pretty much whats in t
