I'm afraid that its all visual trickery - aka animation. ...removing everything that was currently in the list. Actually, no. notifyDataSetChanged only tells the underlying observers that the data has changed. That's it. In response, getView(...) is called for each visible view - the number accessible by ListView#getChildCount() . Since either indices have changed(adding/deleting items), or the data held in objects at those indices has(^) changed(one or more items have changed), the data is(^) refreshed visually by subsequent calls to ListView#getView(...) . There is an interesting video by 'Android Developers' that explains how you can produce the effect you are after: DevBytes: ListView Ce

@user3265443 well probably some answers in flickering case suggest that you would have to clear out previous references from the view if it is getting reused or you can use some animations when you are adding the item in your listview maybe this can help. [this video]

I have a Fragment which consists of a single GridView. The user can click an action bar icon to add a new item to the bottom of this GridView. I would like to have this action represented by an animation where the GridView scrolls to the bottom of the pre-addition dataset, then scrolls one row down (if necessary to fit the new item), and then animates the addition of the new item. My GridView is backed by a CursorAdapter, which is populated by a ContentProvider using a Loader, so dataset updates are provided by swapping out the Cursor in onLoadFinished() . I've broken down the procedure into several steps: If not already there, scroll to the bottom of the existing dataset Detect the end of t

I am trying to modify this [this video] example ( code [LINK] ) so that when an item is added to listview, listview scrolls at the same time when new item is added. The default behaviour is first listview make space for new item and then new item is added. I am getting most of the things right but the problem is listview doesn't scrolls to the last added item. It just animate within the currently displayed views. This is the github repo [LINK] for full code Here is the code of listview and adapter public class InsertionListView extends ListView { private static final int NEW_ROW_DURATION = 500; private static final int OVERSHOOT_INTERPOLATOR_TENSION = 5; private OvershootInterpolator sOvershootIn
