Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it when answering beginner questions about 3D player movement in Unity, and as the tutorial that people follow and then ask about when their script errors out.

What it is

A Brackeys Unity tutorial that walks through building a third person character controller using the CharacterController component, with camera-relative movement and a Cinemachine follow camera. It is a roughly 21 minute step-by-step screencast with the scripts written on screen.

that's really weird. Although it may not be optimal, if you just want a quick fix, you might be able to solve it by using `Rigidbody.velocity()` instead of `movePostition`, or just switching from rigidbody based movement to the built in Character Controller component (check out Brakeys youtube video [this video] for a great tutorial on this).

Here is a video by Brackeys, on first person movement: [LINK] He also made a video about on third person movement: [this video] Though his movement system doesn't use physics. If you want a physics based movement system, you can use Dani's Karlson movement script: [LINK] He also made a video on it if your still confused: [LINK]

I was following this video: [this video] And after making the thirdpersonmovement script, I get an error that he did not get. Can anyone help me? There's probably a very small error that I cannot see, I must be blind. I followed the exact steps. using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using UnityEngine; public class ThirdPersonMovement : MonoBehaviour { public CharacterController controller; public float speed = 6f; // Update is called once per frame void Update() { float horizontal = Input.GetAxisRaw("Horizontal"); float vetrical = Input.GetAxisRaw("Vertical"); Vector3 direction = new Vector3(horizontal, 0f, vertical).normalized; if (direction.magnitude >= 0.1f) { controller.

You first have to choose what kind of movement you want to accomplish i.e: 1st person, 3rd person etc . And saying that YouTube tutorials don't work definitely means you are missing something. Here are some good tutorials for different 3d movement. Please follow them thoroughly. 1st Person: [LINK] [LINK] 3rd Person: [this video] You can find a ton more movement systems on Google. Your movement depends on your usage. You have to use a different approach if you want it to be Character Controller based than Rigidbody based. So learn the basics, and then experiment on your own until you are happy with it.

Since you are new to unity, I would recommend you to watch Brackeys tutorial on player movement. It gives a detailed answer to your question. First person: [LINK] Third person: [this video]

I am trying to implement a 3D, Third person character movement using a Rigidbody and Cinemachine. The character should be able to walk on the ground and ceiling, as well as on the walls (only left and right wall, when facing the positive X-Axis). I achieved that by adding/changing a constant force to the Rigidbody, to change the gravity direction and rotating the character on x for up and down and z for right and left. The CinemachineBrain has a World Up Override set to the Characters transform and the CinemchineFreeLook Binding Mode is set to "Simple Follow with World Up". This lets the camera/cinemachine orbits rotate relative to the Characters rotation. For now I have implemented 4 method

The problem is that you should never use both ChracacterController and Rigidbody. The reason for this is that it gets messy, it does two different physics calculations, and you can do it with either of them by themselves. When should I use Rigidbodies? Rigidbodies should be used in 2d games (as of now, there is no build in character controller for 2d). In 3D, you have a choice of Rigidbody or CharacterController. Rigidbody should be used for planes, boats, etc. And for any physics involved players. For non-player usage, Rigidbodies should be use for anything like a bullet or ball. Any object using physics. When should I use CharacterController? Character controllers should be used for player

So, I've been trying to make a third-person camera for the game I'm making in Unity 3D. I'm new to game dev(but I understand some things in this because I tried to make games earlier and tried to learn Java a bit) so I used Brackeys' guide on this [this video] , but every time I'm trying to compile the code, it just says that variable targetAngle where's stored math Atan function cannot be used in another variable moveDir for some reason. this is the error "Assets\Scripts\PlayerMovement.cs(67,48): error CS0103: The name 'targetAngle' does not exist in the current context", and here's the code using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; using UnityEngine; public class PlayerMovemen
