Why Ethereum Stack Exchange recommends it

Ethereum Stack Exchange users link it as a beginner-friendly walkthrough of Solidity and Truffle, and many later questions cite it as the HelloWorld/MetaCoin tutorial they were following.

Recommended by 4 people across 3 different months, 2017 to 2018.

What it is

A 70-minute hands-on tutorial in which Will Warren walks host Decypher Media through setting up an Ethereum dev environment, writing a hello world Solidity contract, and building a metacoin from scratch. It uses the browser Solidity compiler and the Truffle framework, covers deploying to a local environment and the live testnet, and touches on basic contract design patterns.

I would recommend using Truffle for testing and writing your contracts. [LINK] These videos helped me to get started and work out the development process using truffle: [this video]

I started with the help of following links and tutorials, that may help you as well. My aim was to learn Ethereum and blockchain basics and then start DApp development quickly. From this video: [this video] I discovered Truffle ( [LINK] ) Couple of things on life cycle: The contract creator pays gas to get the contract into the block chain. If the method or access is constant, the client and do the operation. Constant operations do not modify the block chain, so they are free. If the method is not constant, then it costs gas to run it. Some code using web3 on node console: # Beware the promise > var helloWorld; HelloWorld.deployed().then((a) => helloWorld = a); # Free > hello.balance.call() # Not free > hello.getBalanceBaller.sendTransaction() '0x7acb7577a8623090b4f648203f2ecfc2e0689e011f100edef212872fe9e917f7' > hello.balance.call() { [String: '412'] s: 1, e: 2, c: [ 4

this answer is what you need to get the results from the console that they demonstrate here: [this video] @BadrBellaj nice work :)

Can't believe I found answer on a youtube video comment : Truffle change to call this way HelloWorld.deployed().then(a => console.log(a.address)) link to the youtube video : link [this video] Which mean in my case HelloWorld.deployed().then(a => console.log(a.balance)) , or HelloWorld.deployed().then(a => console.log(a.balance.then(console.log))) , to get answer directly So yes truffle changed their way of accessing contract in newer versions, they should update their doc

I'm trying to do my first basic smart contract, following this [this video] popular HelloWorld tutorial. However whenever I get to the part where I run a function in the truffle console, it is always telling me ".function_name is not a function". For example, calling the default truffle MetaCoin getBalance function : truffle(development)> MetaCoin.deployed().getBalance( web3.eth.accounts[0] ) TypeError: MetaCoin.deployed(...).getBalance is not a function Am I calling the function incorrectly? How should I be calling the .getBalance function in the MetaCoin example?

I have a problem when executing the code HelloWorld.deployed().balance.call().then(console.log) This error introduced: Cannot read property 'call' of undefined This problem is similar to this thread [LINK] but it does not help on my case. My code is from this turorial [this video] contract HelloWorld { address public owner; mapping (address => uint) balances; function HelloWorld() { owner = msg.sender; balances[owner] = 1000; } function transfer(address _to, uint _value) returns (bool success) { if (balances[msg.sender] < _value) { return false; } balances[msg.sender] -= _value; balances[_to] += _value; return true; } function getBalance(address _user) constant return
