Are We Really 99% Chimp?
Why Biology Stack Exchange recommends it
Biology Stack Exchange users link it when people are confused about what 'sharing 99% of DNA' with chimps or other species actually means, and in lists of short evolution videos for teaching.

What it is
A three-minute MinuteEarth explainer on why the popular claim that humans share 99% of their DNA with chimpanzees is misleading. It looks at how that figure is calculated and why small genetic differences can still produce big differences in organisms. Script by Ferris Jabr, with animated visuals and narration in the MinuteEarth style.

It is often cited that humans share 99% (or 98%) of their DNA with chimpanzees. On the other hand it is stated that siblings share only half of their genes. What (if any) is the difference between DNA and genes; or, how can the above two claims be reconciled? (I am assuming of course that chimps and humans are more different from each other than two siblings are from each other.) (I am asking this question as a layperson, who had a little biology in school but not much more.) [this video] In this video it is said our DNA matches almost the dog's then it can be also said that dogs evolved from humans. Is it?
