What it is
A beginner-oriented ASP.NET MVC and Entity Framework tutorial by Patrick Washington, about 1h38m long and a free portion of a longer paid course. It builds a small web app step by step, including a School model with Students, Courses and Enrollments and a code-first database.

Yet another in the saga of the ASP MVC tutorial [this video] I'm working through. Everything was going along pretty nicely, except, I noticed that two of the three tables being created had no data in them. Unable to figure out why, I got serious and deleted the database thinking I would let it be created again from scratch. Well, now the database is created, but has no tables in it. AND, data that would be in a table is still getting passed to the view. I'm very confused. SchoolContext.cs public class SchoolContext : DbContext { public DbSet<Student> Students { get; set; } public DbSet<Course> Courses { get; set; } public DbSet<Enrollment> Enrollments { get; set; } .... .... I have found some solutions on this, but most were in winforms, wpf. Some solutions are about MVC, it just doesn't fix my problem. I've created this by following this tutorial [this video] . Controller public class NewPageController : Controller { private SchoolContext db = new SchoolContext(); public ActionResult ABC() { var Students = db.Students; return View(Students); } } Models: public class Student { public int StudentId { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } public DateTime EnrollmentDate { get; set; } //NavigationProperties public List<Enrollment> Enrollments { get; set; } } public class Course { public int CourseId { get; set; } public st

I'm working through an ASP.NET MVC 5 tutorial on [this video] . I'm really enjoying it. However, I'm stuck on what seems to be a strange error. Strange meaning I think I have everything typed in as in the tutorial, but VS2013 is flagging me, and I can't figure out what might be wrong. Defining the math variable as a Course seems fine. However, then it doesn't like math. Models/Course.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; namespace MyfirstProject.Models { public class Course { int CourseID { get; set; } string CourseName { get; set; } int TotalCredits { get; set; } } } Controllers/XyzController.cs using MyfirstProject.Models; using System; using Sy

I have seen a few questions like this, but none seem to answer my question - the most common response seems to be 'Lazy Loading - The database/tables will be created when you try to access them' in this case I am: Dim students As List(Of Student) = db.Students.ToList The above is throwing an error, because students table is empty/null. Here is my (very simple) SchoolContext: Imports System.Data.Entity Public Class SchoolContext Inherits DbContext Public Students As DbSet(Of Student) End Class Here is my SchoolInitialiser class: Imports System.Data.Entity Public Class SchoolInitializer Inherits DropCreateDatabaseAlways(Of SchoolContext) Protected Overrides Sub Seed(context As SchoolContext) D
