there are two problems with your code the first is that you have a syntax error in if(x1, y1, x2, y2 != '') you should do each check alone x1 != '' and separate them with AND operator && see the code below the second problem is that document.getElementById("x1").value return a string not number so you need to convert it to number before using it to avoid unwanted behaviours function domidpoint() { var x1 = document.getElementById("x1").value; var y1 = document.getElementById("y1").value; var x2 = document.getElementById("x2").value; var y2 = document.getElementById("y2").value; var midpointx, midpointy; if (x1 != "" && x2 != "" && y1 != "" && y2 != "") { midpointx = (Number(x1) + Number(x2))

I have experience with Java and Python and am following along with this tutorial online ( [this video] ) to learn Javascript. Despite copying and pasting his code (where I have a javascript file called "test.js" and a html file called "test.html", I am unable to have the "Hello world" text displaying in the browser page when it opens. (The title of the page displays correctly, but the "Hello world" text does not display in the page and there is only a blank page). test.html: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en-US"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8"> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content = "ie=edge"> <title>Today's date</title> </head
