Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it as the tutorial they are following when building a navigation drawer, and as the beginner-friendly guide recommended to newcomers, though many report breakage because it predates AndroidX.

What it is

Part 1 of a Coding in Flow series that builds an Android navigation drawer from scratch in Android Studio. It adds the design support library dependency, creates vector icons and a menu XML with grouped items, and sets up the activity theme without an action bar so a toolbar can be added later.

You can achieve the same using navigation drawer. Navigation drawer is menu or layout which slides from edges of the screen. As you are a beginner you need to learn the concepts first. So, try to learn navigation drawer first. As per suggestion you can watch below video. Navigation drawer [this video] As you complete the video you will know what navigation drawer is and how to implement it. Now, as you mentioned in your video it's a calculator. So, drawer is given specific height and width as well as it is placed below the calculating screen. SO, I assume that you know basics. Using relative layout and it's property You can use ... android:layout_below = "calculating_screen" ... This will place y

So I'm trying to get a navigation drawer done using this tutorial ( [this video] ) however, I undersetand that something has changed in Android Studio since the tutorial was uploaded with AndroidX and toolbars and stuff, but I'm not sure what has changed. I've been trying for hours to understand the problem but I'm new to android studio so I'm clueless. The app just keeps crashing Basically, I just don't know what to import in regards to the toolbar to make it work This is the main activity info thats relevant import androidx.appcompat.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle; import androidx.appcompat.app.AppCompatActivity; import android.os.Bundle; import androidx.appcompat.widget.Toolbar; import androidx.cor

This is the tutorial I am following here: [this video] The errors I'm getting seem unrelated to as to why I'm not getting a nav view, but for some reason it break my preview on the right as you can see, but also when I build project I get this ugly default Hello World activity. What am I doing wrong here? I even copy and pasted the code the tutorial the guy made available just to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. What am I doing wrong? Here's a screenshot of my errors: [LINK]

I have been following this [this video] tutorial series on YouTube to make a drawer for my application [LINK] and I have followed everything, except I am not using fragments and instead want a toast to appear when an option from the menu is clicked and for some reason, nothing happens when I click on an option, even though I used a switch case to handle the selection of an item. I will post the code below that way it is easier to understand my situation and if you would like you can clone the repo here [LINK] . Here is the code for MainActivity.java package com.example.myapplication; import androidx.annotation.NonNull; import androidx.appcompat.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle; import androidx.appcompat

I am watching this tutorial: [this video] and the author says to change appcompat to design enter image description here [LINK] BUT, I don't have strings like these in my code: enter image description here [LINK] What should I do to make it right even if I don't have these strings in my code? I mean, what do I do if I don't have '''implement com.android.support:appcompat''', but I do have '''implementation 'androidx.appcompat:appcompat:1.1.0'''' ?

I've been trying to implement a Navigation Drawer using this [this video] tutorial series. It is quite an old tutorial and it uses the android.support library instead of androidx so I tried to adjust it to use androidx instead but there a few bugs in the UI and functionality of the drawer. When I launch the application on my emulator or on a physical device, the drawer looks like this (takes up the entire screen) and it does slide in and out from the left. It would be really helpful if someone could point me to what I'm doing wrong or suggest a guide as to how to implement the Navigation drawer another way. This is how the UI looks [LINK] Here is my code: All code [LINK] AndroidManifest.xml: <?xm

@zain Okay, I can see. I knew the way I set it up was totally wrong because I fully built it following a youtube tutorial which was a basic sample of a different kind of app [this video] but regardless, I'm open to your further suggestions. Thanks for showing up

I'm following this tutorial on Youtube on how to create a navigation menu bar [this video] And I have this in my theme.xml file but the AppTheme is in red and the application won't run I've checked many times and I just can't see where it could've gone wrong, the Youtube video is relatively old so perhaps it should be written in a different way with the newer version now?
