I am posting this for other people, who may want to install Ubuntu on their Toshiba Satellite P50-B laptops. Please notice, I could install the ATI Radeon Graphics card on Ubuntu (I think is just unconfigured); so I did not answer @cloud10 question. Installation instructions for Toshiba Satellite P50T-B, Windows 8.1 + Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (Trusty Tahr): Resize your Windows partition in Windows using the (pre-installed) Disk Management tool. The recommended is to have: a Ubuntu system partition, a Linux swap partition, and a data partition. yesterday I installed ubuntu 14.04 in my windows 8.1(preinstalled) lenovo 14R willing to dual boot it with windows 8.1.I created a different partition and a 2gb partition for swap. Though i did NOT DISABLE FAST BOOT of windows 8. I am a new linux user and I have no idea of fixing it. Now I can only boot Ubuntu and when I choose windows boot manager (instead of ubuntu in the begining) i see this screen: /EndEntire file path: /ACPI(a0341d0,0)/PCI(0,13)/Sata(0,0,0)/HD(2,1f4800,82000, 03b335deed640d49,2,2)/File(\EFI\Microsoft\Boot)/File(bootmgfw.efi)/EndEntire error: cannot load image Press any key to continue. . . i followed the instructions of this video. any linux distro will be installed on the another partition. Try installing Win first(skip it if already done) then during the installation choose "something else" and make your own partition, [LINK] [this video] If Win came pre-installed (i.e. UEFI stuff) you have to be a bit careful though and look for videos on how to install ubuntu in efi mode . Wine is good but not as pure windows, if you need need softwares that is not supported on Ubuntu why you should use one? Plus you already have windows installed. But if you want Ubuntu for whatever reason, you can install it alongside windows and use them both, here is the video link, about how to install it [this video] . Ubuntu is pretty good, but Office is not one of the best side of it. Actually Ubuntu is good when you are beginner programmer, or web developer since it is open source and you can understand how everything works. Although, Ubuntu is one of the best gaming linux distro, but not better then windows, at this point.

Ubuntu Operating system is free You will need to partition your hard drive in order to use Ubuntu and Windows on the same computer. Please see this video for instructions. [this video] You can. If you're referring to the same computer, a grub loader will be installed allowing you to choose which operating system you want at start up. You cannot run Windows applications directly on Ubuntu. However you can install Wine which will allow you to run many Windows applications. Please read here for more. [LINK] Yes, by deleting the Ubuntu partition from Windows will completely remove Ubuntu from your computer. But why would anyone do that? :)

I have Windows 8 installed on my computer. I followed the instructions described in this video [this video] to install Ubuntu 14.04 and use dual boot. The installation process went well and everything seemed to work until I typed in my login details and password. After that, the screen freezed completely and Ubuntu did not work. I tried to log in as a guest, but the problem persisted. Then I tried installing Ubuntu on another computer I have (on which Windows 7 is running). Again, the installation went just fine but I faced exactly the same problem! This is how the screen looks like [LINK] What could be the problem? How can I fix it? Thank you.

I found my own solution detailed below: Install a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Pro from the original Microsoft DVD and make a bootable USB drive, as described here [LINK] . During the Windows setup process, choose custom type of installation , in which you're allowed to configure partitions. Erase all the existing partitions except the computer's recovery partitions and created a primary partition large enough for your needs, and install Windows 8. If you do not want to install a fresh copy of Windows, I strongly encourage you to make a backup of your current windows setup and shrink one of your partitions to make room for the Ubuntu operating system as described here [LINK] . Leave the Windows
