Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it when a .NET MAUI Android build fails to sign correctly or can't produce a publishable AAB, since it walks through the keystore and csproj setup step by step.

What it is

A 16-minute tutorial by Gerald Versluis on producing a signed .NET MAUI Android App Bundle (AAB) in Visual Studio 2022 for the Google Play Store. It explains what an Android keystore is, shows how to create one, adds the signing details to the csproj file, and gives tips for doing the same in a CI pipeline.

I was missing an important section in the csproj file that points to the keystore file. I'd like to thank Gerald Versluis for this timeless classic that is still very very relevant and useful! I highly recommend Gerald's videos and can't praise his tireless efforts enough to do him justice. Thank you Gerald! [this video]

As already pointed out in the comments, you absolutely can, while it's not officially recommended for obvious reasons. However, I do know of .NET MAUI apps that are already in the store today. Technically it is definitely possible, mostly because at that level a .NET MAUI app isn't much different from a Xamarin.Forms or even regular iOS or Android app. It's still a .ipa or .aab file that needs to be produced. I have been looking into the process of creating something distributable. You can find my writeups here for Android [LINK] , iOS [LINK] and from those you can find the links on there for Windows and macOS if that is what you need. Additionally I made videos about them which you can find

It seems like when I go through the route of using the terminal to publish a signed .aab instead, I dont get an error. I followed this video: [this video] and as recommended by one of the commenter, I also looked through this: [LINK]
