Why Raspberry Pi Stack Exchange recommends it

Raspberry Pi Stack Exchange answerers point people to it as a live demonstration of mirroring and controlling a Pi's HDMI display from a web browser with low latency.

Recommended by 0 people across 0 different months, 2016 to 2018.

What it is

A one-minute demo of the UV4L Streaming Server and its raspidisp driver on a Raspberry Pi. The Pi's HDMI output is captured as a virtual V4L2 device and streamed in real time to Chrome on a PC with no plugin, while the PC keyboard logs into the Pi and plays a clip with omxplayer. It comes from the UV4L project's own channel.

Few days ago the people at [LINK] published their last "creation" for Raspbian which allows to control the Raspberry Pi from within the browser in real time absolutely plug-in free. There is a demo [this video] which shows this software (UV4L) in action by logging in the Rpi from a PC keyboard and playing a video clip. Latency is few ms. This solution does not require any X server on the Rpi. To install it just follows the instructions in the documentation.

The "fastest" and most efficient way to stream HDMI-out (and optionally audio too) remotely to .e.g a web browser is UV4L [LINK] . It does not require any plug-in installed on the browser. This is a demo [this video] which clearly show this. You can also control the Rpi from the browser.

read through the description of this demo on youtube: [this video] . The DEMO is *one example* of use of the uv4l-raspidisp driver which can be used for more generic stuff

The easiest way I am aware of is UV4L, because you can get a video stream or JPEG pictures in real-time of what the Raspberry Pi is displaying on the HDMI screen connected to it (or would be displaying, if you do not have an HDMI screen connected). It's easy because you just open the browser and type the correct URL (e.g. http:// rpi_address :8080/stream/webrtc) to start the stream in the page. There is also a button to record the video in standard .webm . Furthermore, it's possible to send key strokes from your PC to the Raspberry Pi to control it from within the browser itself, but this is another story. You do not necessarily need an X server running on your Rpi. To do this, you will have
