What it is

A short tutorial showing how to reach a Raspberry Pi Zero W headlessly over a USB cable using USB gadget Ethernet, so no micro HDMI cable or monitor is needed. It covers flashing Raspbian Lite, editing config.txt and cmdline.txt, enabling SSH, and connecting from Windows with Bonjour and PuTTY. Presented by the TechWizTime channel.

For anyone new that reads this post I followed this video tutorial [this video] . The step-by-step process for someone that wants to take remote access from a Raspberry Pi Zero W using Windows and Putty is the following: 1) Download and install the latest Raspbian [LINK] using Etcher [LINK] 2) Create empty ssh file (that means ssh and not ssh.txt because that would be text) 3) Open config.txt with wordpad or notepad++ and write dtoverlay=dwc2 at the very bottom of the file. 4) Open cmdline.txt with wordpad or notepad++ and after the word rootwait press space and write modules-load=dwc2,g_ether . 5) Download and install Bonjour for windows [LINK] and Putty [LINK] 5.5) Connect your microusb with ra

I am going on a limp right now and I'm going to ask the following. Given that the ssh is disabled and that I'm using a Windows 8 machine with putty installed, I would like to know the easiest way to enable ssh and connect to my Raspberry Pi Zero W with installed Rapspbian Stretch (2018 edition). Before someone says that there are tutorials I have already tried two ( this one [LINK] and this one [this video] ) that have worked in the past for me but now I keep getting an error message from Putty that says Unable to open connection to raspberrypi.local Host does not exist So, can you suggest to me a solution?

As stupid as it sounds, here is the case: tl;dr: ssh via wifi into Rpi works. ssh via usb works as well, but only when Rpi is connected to wifi. Why? Imagine we have a Raspberry Pi Zero W working in headless mode running the latest Raspbian Stretch, up to date and all. Said Rpi has two modes of ssh manually established on it - USB (per instructions in Video_1 ) and Wifi. Here's the funky bit - ssh over USB seems to be wifi dependant. Meaning, it is possible to establish an ssh connection via a usb cable and work normally ( ssh pi@raspberrypi.local allows you to connect to the Rpi) when the pi is connected to wifi. Pull the plug on the router, and the USB connection is disabled - and you cann

I ordered a Raspberry Pi Zero W and set it up using this tutorial [this video] . For a while it worked and after I shutdown my Raspberry Pi Zero W and used it a few hours later, I couldn't connect to it using raspberrypi.local. It just kept timing out. I didn't change anything on the Raspberry Pi Zero W or my PC since then, what can I do to fix this? Additional info: Host PC = Windows 10 w/ Bonjour Raspberry Pi Zero W not connected to WiFi yet (why didn't I do that? I'm dumb)

I've followed several tutorials on how to setup SSH through USB for my raspberry pi zero w. I've followed [LINK] and [this video] which says the same things. My raspberry pi zero W with raspbian appears on the wired connections on Ubuntu, and I can even connect to it. I activated it with ON and it displays connecting forever. Look at my ifconfig on my laptop: enp0s20f0u1: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::5c6d:6621:10ce:3c88 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x20<link> ether 1e:df:87:0b:23:bf txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet) RX packets 368 bytes 17203 (17.2 KB) RX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 frame 0 TX packets 110 bytes 21428 (21.4 KB) TX errors 0 dropped 0 overruns 0 carrier 0 colli
