Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Refrigerated Cooling Suit!
Why Hacker News recommends it
Brought up whenever wearable cooling or heat extremes come up, as a real worked example of a pumped-coolant cooling suit.
What it is
Adam Savage and engineer Kipp Bradford build a compact wearable refrigeration system to keep Adam cool under costumes, modeled on the cooling unit in a NASA spacesuit simulator. It is a long, hands-on build session.

Pre-Covid, Adam Savage built a portable condensing/evap cooling system using an old Soviet flight suit. He teamed up with an engineer to make it happen. Fascinating design/build video. [this video]

> Now if you can get a miniaturized mechanical heat pump that has higher efficiency (day a coefficient of performance of 2-4) and you need to last for much longer than an hour, I think you can significantly beat the weight of an ice pack... Adam Savage did a video where he and someone who appears ridiculously well-qualified built one of these [this video]

Ironically, the cosplay space has this covered. They have portable battery powered air conditioners connected to astronaut-style onesies-with-coolant-pipes. Unfortunately they're still manually assembled, so not quite readily available yet. [this video] <- Adam savage building one for an astronaut cosplay suit.

Adam Savage built such a suit though it was not solar powered. He used it for cosplaying in oppressive heat and the AC was an upgrade over using ice. [this video]
