What it is
A 23-minute tutorial from the Iridesium channel on building a simple but effective explosion with Blender's Mantaflow smoke solver. It covers particle emitters, domain and emitter settings, smoke collision, baking, an explosion shader, and render settings.

I've been following this [this video] tutorial on how to make a simple explosion, I am using the same values, but I don't get the same effect. It seems like my particles have no initial velocity. Do you know what could cause this problem? Updated .blend file: [LINK] His explosion: [LINK] My explosion: [LINK] My explosion after James' tips: [LINK]

I was following a tutorial ( [this video] ) on explosions in blender but i've run into a few problems. I followed it pretty much exactly, though he does go a bit fast so I may have missed a thing or two. Around 15:03 after he does the initial baking he selects a frame and goes into rendered view before adjusting the shaders, and his smoke already looks like how it should, just without the colors. However when I enter rendered view after baking, all I see is a cube of smoke filling the entire domain, rather than a frame from the explosion. Basically like how volumetric fog looks in eevee. Also earlier when he's in solid view he turns on color mapping to see the smoke better, and it makes his smoke

I've been following an explosion tutorial [this video] . Blender's quick smoke results are very impressive but I'm trying to mimic artillery explosions I've seen on youtube in several [LINK] places [LINK] . In particular, I've noticed that the blender quick smoke simulation seems to put smoke first and has a rounded outer edge rather than ragged, spiky flame. I've experimented a little and, even with high particle velocities, the outer puffs of smoke look a bit like fragments of cauliflower or broccoli. Here's my explosion: [LINK] Having carefully studied that second video I linked above, I've identified these distinct stages, the first of which is not provided by the Blender quick smoke simulati

I am brand new to Blender. I'm running Blender 2.8 on Ubuntu 20.04. I've been working through an explosion tutorial [this video] . I have a simple-but-glorious explosion using only a single emitter and I've been able to successfully render it at 20% of its original size (original size is 1920x1080). This takes about an hour to render 45 frames. Blender has crashed twice now trying to render it at 40% of its original size -- this takes about 4-5 minutes per frame on average. The second time I babysat it as it worked, watching the amount of memory used in the Blender Render window and in the bottom right of the main Blender window. Blender does not appear to be using all that much memory. The machi

I've been following this explosion tutorial [this video] . While I've managed to get a pretty great-looking explosion shape, it's just grayscale -- no color, even though I'm certain I've followed the shader edits very carefully. [LINK] I think the issue may have something to do with my GeForce GTX 470. I cannot get either cycles or eevee to render any of the smoke or explosion. I also cannot select any CUDA or OpenCL video card in preferences -> system. If I attempt to render with cycles using just the CPU, it renders the geometric objects (plane and ico sphere) but none of the particles, and none of the smoke or fire. Rendering with workbench will slowly build a very nice explosion of smoke but

I am following this particle explosion tutorial [this video] and for some reason instead of looking nice and billowy and realistic, it looks like a bunch of floating chunks. My theory is that the smoke is not rendering but I may be wrong. also, I would like to go about this the way the maker of the tutorial does, because I like the idea of having a lot of control over my explosion's material. I'm following along with this video [this video] but my explosion looks like this. [LINK] The explosion breaks up into pieces. I would like it to look similar to the video where big bubbles form in it. Explosion from the video looks like this. [LINK] I used same settings as the video. File [LINK]
