What it is

A 24-minute screencast by Robin Ward (eviltrout) showing how to build an Ember.js app without Ember Data, using ember-cli. It starts with plain JavaScript objects in route model hooks and builds up to a hand-rolled identity map, using a small Reddit client as the example.

You can actually just return javascript objects in the model hook. I watched this video on using Ember without ember-data: ember without ember-data [this video] so one option could be to create a object with the appropriate schema then it will be usable as your model but wont be in the store until you create a record in the store and set the values accordingly. something like: model: function() { return { firstname: '', lastname: '', title: ''}; } then the object is accessible in your templates as the model but not in the store.

If you're using the new ES6, for example from ember-cli [LINK] , you must import Ember: import Ember from 'ember'; I was following Evil Trout's Ember Reddit tutorial [this video] and saw the following error in the tests: my-new-app/routes/subreddit.js should pass jshint. my-new-app/routes/subreddit.js: line 3, col 16, 'Ember' is not defined. adding the above line to the top of my-new-app/routes/subreddit.js passed the tests.

I've been trying to use it from the bower_components dir too with not much luck: [LINK] i think the screencast was [this video]

You most definitely need to use Ember-data which is REST oriented. See Robin Ward's talk on using Ember without Ember-data [this video] . I was able to find a simple example of using the command pattern in an example app here [LINK] . Here is another article by Yoran Brondsema on using the command pattern in an Ember app [LINK] . I believe that the last example is a good jumping off point.
