I'm attempting to begin developing my first Rails App and I'm having difficulty with getting started. I was watching this video( [this video] ) and stopped at the 4:27 mark. I wrote this code here: $ rails new readit -d mysql And this error message below showed up: VM573:2 Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected identifier at Object.InjectedScript._evaluateOn (:895:140) at Object.InjectedScript._evaluateAndWrap (:828:34) at Object.InjectedScript.evaluate (:694:21) Do I need to install RailsInstaller into my Local host inorder to be able to move forward? Is that even the issue here?

this is my first post. I'm brand new to Rails and I'm attempting to learn how to use it. To be clear, I have a brushing familiarity with Ruby. I'm pretty sure I get the MVC structure, but I'm having trouble understanding certain behaviors I'm experiencing. Just in case anyone learned from the same source, I'm watching Derek Banas explain it. He explains the thing I'm having trouble with around 16:20. [this video] On to specifics- So I placed this line in my routes.rb file: match':controller(/:action(/:id))', :via => :get and I created an instance variable in the controller using this: def sample @controller_message = "Hello From The Controller" end And in a sample view I created, I call on the "c

I hope everyone is having a great day. In my pursuit of knowledge, I've ran into a huge stumbling block. I'm following this tutorial. I'm using the most up to date everything, I think he is in rails 4 and I'm in rails 5. [this video] By no means is watching the tutorial necessary to understand my question. Right where I linked, the only thing he has done besides generate a simple rails app, is generate a controller like this: rails generate controller welcome index Then right where I linked into the video, he goes into the routes file and uncomments a line that isn't present in my rails app, so I just wrote it by hand root 'welcome#index' And it fails when I try to load localhost:3000, throwing a

I'm attempting to start learning Ruby on Rails via a YouTube tutorial series( [this video] ), but seem to be struggling getting everything properly installed and set up to do so. The tutorial requires MySQL with MySQL Workbench and Ruby on Rails. I've gotten several errors in the first few steps and taken some steps to try to resolve them, here's basically where I've gotten. Installed the most recent version of MySQL and Ruby on Rails. I ran the rails new [name] -d mysql command without issue and it ran to completion. I then navigated to the newly created project folder and ran the bundle install at which point I was given the following error: Gem::InstallError: nio4r requires Ruby version >= 2.3
