I have my general solution for the problem. Recently I have installed Ubuntu 16.04LTS Gnome on my iMac with Sierra Mac OS X. The reason was that OS became sluggish and I wanted something faster (and after 17th years with Linux the solution was obvious). I follower a nice tutorial Ubuntu on iMac [this video] Everything went great until rebooting the iMac after Ubuntu installation. The only booting system was Linux, moreover I could not see the GRUB menu... Hopefully it was booting) The Linux works great, just some Wireless and graphic drivers were missing (used Xorg instead), but after plugging it via Ethernet cable to my modem I made all updates and installed the drivers. I follow this [this video] tutorial to install Ubuntu 16.04 along with my OSx. Initially, it worked. I could boot in both systems using the rEFInd interface. But after I installed updates and some software* on my Ubuntu it doesn't boot anymore. When I turn on the computer it goes to rEFInd screen, which gives me the option to choose OSx and Ubuntu. Initially, I could click in any of them and they will boot. Now, since I rebooted for the first time (after the updates) when I choose the Ubuntu option it starts the boot screen (purple screen with 'Ubuntu' and a sign of 'loading'), it never leaves that screen. I have waited a long time and nothing changes. I tried to reinstall Ubuntu, but the same pr

so my problem is. I am going to do some machine learning at my Uni this semester and we were told to install Ubuntu 16.04.3. I have never worked with Ubuntu or Linux, however I spent quite some time during past week trying to get it work on my 2016 MacBook Pro (13 inch, 16GB RAM, 2.9GHz dual core i5, 256GB SSD, Intel Iris Graphics 550). First of all, I installed it using VirtualBox, following the tutorial [LINK] that our teacher provided us with. I dedicated 8GB of RAM out of 16 to the VM, maximised video memory that it can use and enabled 3D acceleration and the VM was running very laggy and slow. So I did some research and tried dedicating only 4GB of RAM to it to put less pressure on host
