Why Stack Overflow recommends it

Stack Overflow users link it when a React or Vite app hits CORS errors against a backend during development and they want a quick proxy setup instead of server-side CORS changes.

Recommended by 3 people across 3 different months, 2023 to 2024.

What it is

A 16-minute tutorial by Sam Meech-Ward on using a dev-server proxy in Vite, Parcel, or Create React App so a React front end can call an API on the same origin, which sidesteps CORS errors in development. It also covers building the app and deploying it from an Express server on Railway.

Thank you for your response. I found a solution for development purposes by adding proxy server in vite.config.js file. I found the solution in this video [this video] I will also try your given method to create a backend proxy server to see if it tricks the browser in development.

@Tobias the issue I was getting was that I did not have permission for CORS, so I just followed the steps in this video: [this video]

Turns out I've added credentials: 'include' incorrectly on client side. Fetch takes only 2 arguments (url and dict of arguments). The correct way would be: const response = await fetch( `${URI}/file_upload`, { method: "POST", body: formData, credentials: 'include' }, ); Thanks to Miguel Grinberg for pointing it out on discord. Another workaround would be to configure proxy as explained in the video [this video]

so for me i was trying to send a request to an online api from local host, my code looked like something like the below const fetchAssessmentResult = async () => { try { const response = await axios.post( " [LINK] ", formData, // Assuming formData contains the assessment data { headers: { "Content-Type": "application/json", }, } ); console.log("Assessment result:", response.data); return response.data; // Return the response data if needed } catch (error) { console.error("Error fetching assessment result:", error.message); // Handle errors gracefully return null; }}; and when i try sending the request i kept on getting the error Access to XMLHttpRequest at ' [LINK] ' from origin ' [LINK] ' h
