Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users link it when someone's texture stretches or skews on curved or cylindrical geometry and the UV islands need straightening with Follow Active Quads.

Recommended by 3 people across 3 different months, 2020 to 2022.

What it is

A five-minute Blender tutorial from Default Cube (CG Matter) showing how to straighten distorted UV islands using the built-in Follow Active Quads operator, with no addons needed. It walks through unwrapping a curved or cylindrical mesh and flattening the result so textures stop stretching.

Have you tried using "Follow Active Quads" as demonstrated in this video? It seems that Blender is deforming your cylindrical shapes and that's what is causing distortion. This will straighten those cylindrical shapes out for you and should fix the problem. Also you've got four seams for that handle when you only need the one. Unwrap it with a single seam and then apply the below method. SIDE NOTE: In the video he says to search for "Follow Active Quads" but you can also find it by pressing 'U' in the 3D viewport and finding it there. Hope this helps! [this video]

Thanks for you answer. Note (for anyone else) that I managed to fix it without using TexTools. First trick was to set the UV unwrap to "conformal", which fixed the skew/distortion. Then the curved pieces can be straightened out by using the"Follow Active Quads" trick ( [this video] )
