What it is

A 23-minute Blender 2.7 tutorial from BornCG's series on UV mapping. It covers marking seams, unwrapping a mesh into the UV Image Editor, exporting the UV layout as a transparent PNG, painting a texture in Photoshop or GIMP, and applying it with Cycles nodes.

I think i will let this discussion rest for a while and let others contribute. Thanks for the dicussion. It was a worthwhile review of the texture painting features. Here is a worthwhile tutorial ...... [this video]

This is the most easy way I think, just create a cube, tick Generate UVs (so you can texture it immediately), assign a material with a texture. Then you can paint the letters into the texture or import your own: [LINK] If you don't know what UV mapping is and want to understand this procedure properly, I suggest you to watch some UV Mapping and UV Unwrapping tutorials, for example: [this video] Or take a look into official Blender manual: [LINK]

[LINK] Perhaps you forgot to unwrap the mesh. Tutorial [this video] In edit mode Unwrap your plane. Select all vertices before you Unwrap. Your UV Mapping appears incorrect. Perform the UV Map again. Have exactly 1 UV Map. The time required for this is 88 seconds or less. BSE and famous video websites have information on the topics of Blender UV Map and Blender Unwrap. By searching you can find a tutorial on those topics if necessary.

Suggested Tutorial if that suits you. [this video] . Suggestion see 3 other tutorials. The tutorial you referenced maybe showing possibilities that are not suited to your current needs. For example file formats which can hold transparency information such as PNG or OpenEXR do NOT need two files.

I saw this tutorial: [this video] And now I'm trying to export my model into obj file with textures. However, seems this is not possible to achieve with the cycles render (from what I read). So, is there a way to do the same process using the internal render, so that I can have my obj/mtl file referencing the uv layout png file? The final goal is to publish my model into Facebook, which needs glb file. So I was trying to get first the correct obj file and then convert it to the glb file. Thanks
