What it is
A 13-minute screencast by Jonathan Sprinkle that builds a hello-world project from blank files using CMake with Visual Studio 2013 on Windows 8.1. It also shows how to pin Visual Studio to the Start page and why to turn on file extensions in Windows Explorer.

I am new to Cmake and to build projects using it. I have not used this tool before and hence have less knowledge on how it works. I am trying to get the examples of the ArUco library run. But the README provided by the ArUco library suggests to use the Cmake to run them. I have Windows 8.1 and Visual studio 2013 and I have also downloaded and installed the Cmake3.4.0 . After installing it I searched for examples or tutorials on Cmake, and found a few video tutorials [this video] that showed how to compile programs using cmake. But while followed the same steps I got errors. Error [LINK] is as shown I went through different questions posted in the forum but didn't find an answer. I am not sure I n

I am trying to generate mesh and 3D object from point cloud. I have searched lots of libraries and I decided to use CGAL. I followed this [LINK] youtube tutorial. Due to the fact that I want to see the objects, I need to use Qt5 library (as mentioned here [LINK] ) and I downloaded it. And it worked as in tutorial. Libraries and applications I've used CMake 3.15.3 CGAL-4.13.1 Qt 5.13.0 Boost 1_71_0 The problem is that when I call the CGAL::draw() function it gives me this error Impossible to draw because CGAL_USE_BASIC_VIEWER is not defined. When I have searched for it, I have generally found QMAKE_CXXFLAGS +=-DCGAL_USE_BASIC_VIEWER LIBS+=-DCGAL_USE_BASIC_VIEWER .pro file solution (I don't ha

I figured it out. For those struggling with the same issue see this video: [this video] The issue is that you must go into the View settings of the Windows Explorer and make sure that the "file name extensions" box is checked so that Windows won't consider your file extension to be part of the file name. Such as CMakeLists.txt.txt.

So I am trying to configure a file based on this tutorial on youtube which is very simple : [this video] I use CMake GUI in Windows 10 and I have a running Visual Studio 2015 which is able to build c++ projects already (I've used it for some time) I use "Visual Studio 15 2017" I created a folder named hellocmake and hellocmake/build for both inputs: my inputs [LINK] However when I tried to configure, it says that CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:1 (PROJECT): No CMAKE_C_COMPILER could be found. CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:1 (PROJECT): No CMAKE_CXX_COMPILER could be found. The error log specifies that it can't find the two compiler files : Compiling the C compiler identification source file "CMakeCC

Can someone help me set up compiler for CMake and thus help me understand how all this works? I intend to use point cloud library, but I'll use more simple example here (which is also not working) so I could explain my problem better. I have next components: Visual Studio 10 (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0) CMake 3.7.2 (C:\Program Files\CMake) "hellocmake" project - complete file structure as presented here [this video] (C:\Users\my_name\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\hellocmake) I tried to run CMake Gui, pointed to a source and build folders, configured for "Visual Studio 10 2010 Win 64" and run out as expected with: "The C compiler identification is unknown The CXX c
