What it is

A roughly 27-minute talk by Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, from December 2020, using the island, ocean and pond metaphor to explain how Cardano relates to other blockchains and smart contract platforms. It covers how smart contracts, Solidity compatibility and sidechains are expected to fit into Cardano's roadmap.

Charles Hoskinson mentioned [LINK] that first Solidity (the Ethereum smart contracts) will be available in the testnet of Cardano and in the future they will be incorporated as sidechain once the sidechains implementation is in production. Let me try to answer. I am working on building Privacy focused Distributed Deep Neural Net learning called DeepchainAda. I started with stakepool on Cardano and before that I read some of the IOHK research papers and map it to my knowledge of distributed systems Now I believe in learning ground-up so I have started Video series on Blockchain+Machinelearning and Haskell What is the order in which one should learn things? For instance: is the order learn Haskell, then Pluto, then Marlo, then X, ...correct {answer} I would recommend starting from basics of blockchain and why Cardano. Then focus on what you want to build. Start with accounting models using eUTXO and try to understand this. Then

It was those words from Charles' that prompted me to ask the question. There is a strong narrative in the community that Cardano smart contracts are going to be more secure. Given that solidity code could also be audited, I’m looking for specific evidence that may support the increased security narrative (e.g. tooling). Otherwise there is perhaps a risk that the increased complexity/lack of familiarity with functional programming could actually make bugs more common on the The Island [this video] .
