My pleasure! If you are a beginner with PostgreSQL, I suggest you watching freeCodeCamp's tutorial on it. I found it nice and the teacher was friendly ( [this video] ).

Hi richyen, thanks for the suggestion. I can do that yes, however, I am watching tutorial that suggests that psql can run directly from the terminal. See [this video] He shows that it doesn't work initially but does work if you use his setup and instructions. I followed his directions (I thought) but did not succeed sadly.

Hi Laurenz, I am doing this but in the course it seems that the instructor doesn't have to do that? So will I need to use 'psql -U postgres -d postgres' or 'psql -U postgres postgres' with the password every time? That's my situation now. If that's the case, that is fine, I will just copy/paste it on a sticky note or get used to typing it quickly. I just want to make sure there isn't a problem on my side that's disallowing me to do the same. This is the tutorial for reference at a timestamp that demonstrates. [this video]

I have the following code \copy ( SELECT * FROM person LEFT JOIN car ON car.id=person.car_id ) TO 'c:/Users/nick-/Downloads/results.csv' DELIMITER ',' CSV HEADER; and I'm getting back ERROR: syntax error at or near "TO" LINE 6: TO 'c:/Users/nick-/Downloads/results.csv' What am I doing wrong here? I'm following a tutorial online ( [this video] timestamp 3:47:27) and am not seeing my error.

I'm an R programmer but I'm completely new to relational databases and I have been following this tutorial to learn more about SQL, specifically with PostgreSQL: [this video] . However, I'm stuck at 3:49:50 since I cannot export my new table to my Desktop as a CSV file. The file he's using is "person-car.sql" and can be found in this Google Drive folder: [LINK] Specifically, I'm trying to run the following code: \copy (SELECT * FROM person LEFT JOIN car ON car.id = person.car_id) TO 'C:/Users/Carlos/Desktop' DELIMITER ',' CSV HEADER; But when I do this, I always get the following message: C:/Users/Carlos/Desktop: Permission denied What should I do to solve this? I have already read through severa

I am following a long a video tutorial [this video] on PostgreSQL Within the video the teacher has led me to download PostgreSQL 13. I know have pgAdmin 4 and SQL Shell psql. I've been able to follow the teacher all the way until 33:42. Right before that I was able to follow along in the shell and create a database. Then the video cuts and I notice he does not seem to be in the same psql shell and is now in a shell with zsh at the top. I'm on a Windows machine and I am a beginner and do not know what shell this is. The instructor then continues to type psql --help . However when I type that same command I am not able to get the same results thus I am not able to continue to follow along. What do

I am new to PostgreSQL. I am watching the tutirial from FreeCodeCamp by following their examples: [this video] But instead of PostgreSQL I use the Server-based platform (PhpPgAdmin). The problem is, that neither SUM nor AVG and many others aggregate functions cannot be executed. [LINK] The problem seem to be the same constantly: "Function ... does not exist" No function matches the given name and argument types. You might need to add explicit type casts. I found some similar problem here: No function matches the given name and argument types [LINK] but it's related to more complicated example. What I guess, the PhpPgAdmin treats all my numbers as the strings and here is the problem. I tried this

Does anyone know a short cut to going back up a line in psql? I've tried ending with ); and then hitting the up arrow. I can retrieve the line of code that I want and then correct it, but then what? The initial mistake prevented me from CREATING A TABLE, so do I recreate the remaining lines of code from this point forward to finish creating the table. I'm trying to avoid retyping 10 lines of information. I'm using the postgres database and the instructor accomplishing this with very little effort; however, I cannot see the commands he is using to recreate several lines of text which a appear to use only one key. If you look at 52:00 - 53:00 on the instructional video timeline you will see wh

I am following this PostGreSQL course: [this video] I have hit a wall when I try to use psql --help. I have also tried connecting to my db. It just does nothing and goes to next line. I can create a database and drop it but I cannot connect to it or bring a table in the terminal. It seems like psql is not working as it should. I have also set a path in the environment variables following this article: [LINK] I have restarted my PC following the above but it does not work. [LINK]
