What it is
A 68-minute live demo by QGIS core developer Nyall Dawson of the new temporal handling features in QGIS 3.14, including the Temporal Controller. He also walks through his tips and tricks for building effective animated maps.

WMS-T is supported through the new Temporal Controller functionality in QGIS 3.14. See this presentation from Nyall Dawson [this video]

Temporal Controller is coming soon on the QGIS 3.14 release. Here is a great setup (having start_end dates/times) demo on creating temporal layers > [this video]

I was just recently whatching Nyall Dawson's video "QGIS 3.14 time handling and map animation demo". at min 47 ( nyall dawson / youtube video min 47 [this video] ) things are getting interesting from my point of view. While testing the "temporal controller" features I've had some confusing results when trying to implement the time dependent symbology approach shown in the video - imag_01 shows my results following the video-tutorial: data: a GPS track from a yacht race in the Adriatics. data acquisition interval is about 5 min point symbols (yellow): in the foreground are controlled by QGIS' temporal controller points (grey): in the background are non-temporal and displayed just for giving an ove

1) You question needs more focus 2) You don't need a raster for Temporal controller, works perfect with vectors (points) 3) If you have only a year, you could convert (create a field) in datetime format an assign an arbitrary date, say 1st of Jan. or 30st of June of each year. 4) Whatch out for `qgis temporal controller`, there are quite some tutorials out there - a nice one is this here: [this video]

You can directly add your netcdf data as a Mesh layer [LINK] . With Temporal Controller Panel [this video] , you can go through the time dimension.

You can use data driven override for the size, for the transparency and other elements of the style: [LINK] See this example here of a line that fades out: [LINK] It was done by setting the source for the width of the line to day( "timestamp" - @map_start_time ) : thus the number of days between the current frame (based on an attribute timestamp ) and the beginning of the animation (the variable @map_start_time ). See screenshot 1 below. Based on this, the size is scaled in a way as to become thinner and thinner. You could adapt this to point or polygon layers as well. The same can be done with color/transparency: set the same expression and define a color ramp with 100% transparency at the

QGIS 3.x series contains build-in Time Controller [this video] and native Mesh Layer [LINK] . Crayfish [LINK] plugin can be used to show plots and extra processing algorithms for mesh layers. Crayfish [LINK] plugin from version 2.2 is suitable for loading and displaying time varying mesh in QGIS 2.x. After installation of the plugin from the official QGIS repository [LINK] , one can use "Add Crayfish Layer button" [LINK] to load [LINK] NetCDF file.

I have been trying to make an animation with the Temporal Controller in QGIS using a custom .csv file, created by merging lat , lon , arrival_time , departure_time , stop_name and stop_id . It currently looks like this: [LINK] These are the Temporal Controller tab settings: [LINK] I have tried converting arrival_time and departure_time to datetime instead of, as they currently are, just date ; however, this made no difference and it kept not working. Current behaviour: Once the .csv layer is added and the Temporal Controller is active, the dots effectively display on the viewer. However, upong activating it, the timeline starts moving but the dots never move. Expected behaviour: The dots to
