This answer [LINK] showed me something I didn't know: that Luke's lightsaber was blue in the first trailer for Return of the Jedi . As we know, Luke used a green lightsaber in the film. That same answer mentions it was to make the blade stand out better against Tatooine's blue sky, but doesn't back it up with references. Why was the blue blade changed to green? Of course, Luke lost his old blue lightsaber when he was disarmed by Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back . But that was before Return of the Jedi started production. Yet in the trailer for Return of the Jedi , we see Luke with a blue blade, not with the green blade he would use in the final version of the film. So possibly, the ori

That is Luke's lightsaber, as Obi-Wan gave him his father's lightsaber, which he took after the fight he had with Anakin. In Episode VI, he had a new lightsaber, which is green, as already been pointed out he needed another lightsaber. So the crystal he got was green instead of blue. Originally his lightsaber in Episode VI was supposed to be blue, as seen in the original trailer, but was changed as it's said it was difficult to see with the blue sky for Tatooine. But either way, the first lightsaber Luke got was his. It was given to him. And also, if Anakin did actually die, I'm sure he'd want his son to have his lightsaber. It would be like a family heirloom.

First off: kyber crystals only change colour as they bond with (or in the case of dark side users: dominated by) the individual constructing the lightsaber [LINK] . At that point the colour is "fixed" and doesn't change based on who happens to be wielding it at any given time. [LINK] The only way the colour can change is if the crystal is bonded with and built into a new hilt. Secondly: Aside from "red=dominated", the precise meaning (if any) behind the colours of bonded crystal is unknown, even in-universe [LINK] . This appears to be by design [LINK] and meant to be yet another mystery of the Force. The idea that Ahsoka's blades are white as a direct result of her being neither Jedi nor Sit

At 1:06 [this video] , half of the blade (framed against the bright yellow sand) seems to have a greener hue than the rest of the blade (in front of Luke's black clothing). Maybe the mixing of blue and yellow to make green is an unintended effect (real or optical illusion) that they couldn't overcome, so they decided to exaggerate it for the full film. The blurry logo at 1:23 [this video] suggests that this video has been transferred from an old-style CRT television, which are known to produce colour artefacts.
