In-Universe Anakin cut the lighting cable because it was in his way as he walked backwards. He had to step over it, and presumably felt that cutting it would clear the fighting area, removing a slightly random element. It's noteworthy that neither this scene, nor the "fighting in the dark sequence", exist in the original script [LINK] and appear to have been added at the production stage. With TWO LIGHTSABERS, ANAKIN attacks. COUNT DOOKU parries and ripostes. It is no contest. ANAKIN is driven back against the wall. He loses one lightsaber. Finally COUNT DOOKU, in one flashing move, sends Anakin's arm, cut at the elbow, flying still gripping his lightsaber. Out-of-Universe This sequence was

It isn't the killing that turns Luke to the Dark Side. It's his involvement with his rage WHILE killing AND using the Force to amplify his powers to do so. Rage (strong emotional states in general) is how the Sith create their charges. It isn't the act of impersonal killing, the kind of killing a soldier might do in the line of duty. Blowing up the Death Star while potentially horrible, Luke, as a Light Side (soon to be) Jedi, takes no pleasure in its destruction. Luke accepts the destruction of the Death Star(s) as a terrible act done to prevent an even greater atrocity (the destruction of an entire planet) and any planet it might destroy for the Empire in the future. And while he may exper

Update: Palpatine could very well have used his powers to help himself, but he was so utterly consumed with rage at Vader that he couldn't focus his energies. When at last he reaches the open shaft he hurls the Emperor down into the reactor. It’s a long, long way down and the Emperor fires his lightning upward as he falls. He might still have used his powers to save himself, but his hate is now so strong his only thought is to cause Vader more pain. So the lightning continues to flicker and flash even after the body is out of sight. And then comes a great explosion when his body finally reaches the reactor and a poisonous wind races up the shaft, knocking Vader at last to the floor. - Return

. @1:00 Vader refers to Leia saying “perhaps she will [turn to the dark side]” enraging Luke, who screams “nooooo” and goes on the offensive (also looks like Luke switched to Djem So [LINK] ?) @2:00 Sidious says “your hate has made you powerful,” as if to confirm Luke did indeed use the dark side for that moment. Besides speculation on my part, is there any out-of-movie confirmation that Luke did indeed (or didn’t) use the dark side for that moment? Note : The closest related question I found was: Did Luke Skywalker go to the Dark Side? [LINK] which looks to be its own independent question.

It's not the same crystal During his duel with Luke [this video] , Vader's lightsaber fell into the chasm in Palpatine's Throne Room, at the bottom of which lies the Death Star II's 'reactor core'. Per the (fully canon) Ultimate Star Wars [LINK] factbook: In their final duel, Luke momentarily succumbs to his anger and cuts off his father's hand. Thus Vader's lightsaber falls into the same energy well in which Sidious perishes. Per the Official Novelisation [LINK] : The hand, along with bits of metal, wires, and electronic devices, clattered uselessly away while Vader’s lightsaber tumbled over the edge of the span, into the endless shaft below, without a trace. Per the new Junior Novelisation [LIN

When Luke watched the Imperial fleet destroy the rebel starships, Emperor Palpatine could feel the anger and hatred grow inside Luke. He taunted Luke. Good. I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon! Strike me down with all your hatred and your journey to the Dark Side will be complete! Luke pulls his lightsaber to him, activates it, and swings towards the Emperor, only to be blocked by Darth Vader . Yet from this still image it looks like Luke's lightsaber was closer to the Emperor than Vader's. And Vader's is closer to the camera. [LINK] Which means Vader's lightsaber was on the wrong side to block Luke. Luke's lightsaber should have sliced off Palpatine's neck before hitti
