Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users link it when someone needs to align movement or snapping to an arbitrary edge or face using a custom transform orientation.

Recommended by 3 people across 3 different months, 2016 to 2019.

What it is

A short Blender tutorial showing how to create a Custom Transform Orientation so vertices can be snapped and moved along a chosen edge or face direction. It is presented as a workaround for the limits of snapping during edge slide, by Bryson Jack, who also posts the Blender Stack Exchange question it answers.

Thanks for the help Georges. I posted a tutorial on this here [this video] if it helps to see it in video form. I used a more simplified approach as sambler posted.

I think what you are looking for is a custom transformation orientation . That will allow you to create new transformation orientation depends on edges or faces. Keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar Here is a link to a quick tutorial: [this video]

To answer my own subquestion, this is how to access some of the custom transform orientations [this video] Ctrl+Alt-Space once in Edit mode, and once the desired subelement of an object is selected, in my case it was the vertex, so to move in any of the 4 ways the tetra is pointing.
