Here is a very good tutorial on this also using dynamic paint and ocean modifier: [LINK] In this Video some did Floating objects on an ocean like you do its probably going to help you: [this video]

Here is a complete tutorial on how to combine ocean modifier and fluid sim to generate exactly what you are looking for: [this video] And here is a simpler version just with the Ocean Modifier (for zoomed out shots for example): [LINK] Both techniques can be combined but tend to be resource-intensive when rendering. I would move between two scenes (close and wide) to optimize.

I opened Blender and continued a project I've been working on. I was working in layer 4, and when I went back to layer 2 it was all messed up. I simply followed this tutorial. [this video] picture of layer 1 [LINK]

There are a ton of fluid simulation tutorials that can get you started. You're going to want a high viscosity fluid to emulate mud. You could then set up your machine to be a collider in the simulation. Here is a tutorial that covers the basics of fluid simulation. [LINK] You could also augment your simulation with creative use of metaballs and particles. Here is a simple tutorial that covers the very basics of metaballs [LINK] Here is a more advanced tutorial that covers metaballs and particles [LINK] Finally, here are a couple more fluid simulation tutorials: Create Splashes in Blender [this video] Realistic Fluid Simulation [LINK]
