Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange answerers point people to it when they need a step-by-step setup for boats or floating objects that make wakes and foam on an ocean using Dynamic Paint and the Ocean modifier.

What it is

A short Blender 2.75 tutorial by Blind Illusionist that builds an ocean surface which deforms around objects and generates foam as they move through it. It combines the Ocean modifier with Dynamic Paint and comes with a downloadable project file; the ocean and foam shader is credited to another YouTuber, Blender HD.

Here is a very good tutorial on this also using dynamic paint and ocean modifier: [this video] In this Video some did Floating objects on an ocean like you do its probably going to help you: [LINK]

Here is a complete tutorial on how to combine ocean modifier and fluid sim to generate exactly what you are looking for: [LINK] And here is a simpler version just with the Ocean Modifier (for zoomed out shots for example): [this video] Both techniques can be combined but tend to be resource-intensive when rendering. I would move between two scenes (close and wide) to optimize.

As a tutorial link to the dynamic paint method mentioned below Blind Illusionist [this video] put together a good step by step.

I followed these two methods to animate a large yacht hull: [this video] & [LINK] I'd like to mention that I am a Blender newbie and that I have not finetuned materials, environment and the amount of foam generated in my file. Basically my ship is guided along a curve with the help of an underwater slider plane. Here is what I got so far: [LINK] Unfortunately this is way to fast in boat movements (not boat speed) for a large yacht. A large yacht would usually not have the transom exit the water that far. What can I do about this? I tried already to reduce the rotation around the horizontal axis in the hope that would smooth the motion out. Please have a look for this on the attached screenshot of

I am making an ocean and playing around the setting to create a foam and waves that a boat would make. I am learning from youtube and found this [this video] . I tried to apply the same settings on my ocean ( OceanAMovementForStack.blend ). When rendering animation from the example from youtube, waves displacement worked on every frame, but the foam sometimes randomly disappeared. I fixed that by using Bake all dynamics in Physics properties. And that example now works perfectly. In my project when rendering animation, foam is always present, but waves only work on the frame that is being rendered (so wave trail is gone from previous frames). I tried fixing that as before, by baking. Weird things
