Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange answerers point people to it for the grab-bag of destruction and deformation techniques, especially cell fracture, cloth-based dents and molecular simulations.

Recommended by 6 people across 6 different months, 2014 to 2021.

What it is

A short Blender tutorial by Gleb Alexandrov (Creative Shrimp) demonstrating nine techniques for destroying or deforming models, including cell fracture, rigid body physics, cloth-simulation damage, soft bodies and the Molecular add-on. It is a quick tour of each method rather than a deep dive, with a warning that some techniques are unstable.

Dynamic Paint isn't necessary for this to be done. Gleb Alexandrov recently posted a video showing how to use a cloth simulation to achieve damage on an object which matches the shape of the object that is colliding with it as shown here in his video Blender Tutorial: 9 Ways to Destroy Things [this video] Fist step: add a cloth simulation to the object that you want to have a worn-down damaged look. To have the object become squashed without bouncing around or flattening out, just set 'Bending' to 0.0 Then you add a collision simulation to the object that will be causing the damage. I used default settings for this. Now use the Timeline to animate the damage-causing object to overlap with the clo

You can easly achieve physically believable results by running physic simulation, dynamic paint, keyframed shape keys, molecular add-on, fluids... a mix of all... but remember that Blender is an animation-focused software, so don't expect to be asked just about some real world phisical parameters and let the software do all the work. First example: An interesting way to imprint plastic deformation by using a "static" cloth simulation can bee seen in this video [this video] The object to be deformed is a highliy subdivided, cloth physic enabled, with structural stiffnes set to 0 in order to keep the deformation caused by a second object that has collision physic enabled. Second example: No smart i

You can turn the skin into a softbody [this video] and make a new armature made out of mesh bones and apply rigid body constraints/joints . But physics simulations cant effect regular armature bones. But I think its a good idea, you should pitch that idea on rightclickselect [LINK]

Try the Cell Fracture addon + rigid body simulation. If you are asking for something else though, here are some other ways to destroy objects in blender: [this video]

You'r welcome :) Also check Creative Schrimp's video [this video] I like result of Molecular add-on, previously I wasn't sure about using cubes, but seems to work very nice and it could be probably much lighter in calculation.

I have a character that I created and built the armature for the character but I want it to make it so when the character touches his face, his face does something similar to the cloth simulation on this video on 4:20: 9 Ways to Destroy Things [this video] but much subtler.I know there needs to be another object to have a collision setup but can one object have a collision and cloth simulation at the same time so when the character touches himself, his mesh has been affected.

I'm having this problem with shattering my object following this quick tips video of Gleb Alexandrov: [this video] I am trying to achieve the 3rd effect. So I set a particle system and used the cell fracture addon, but my object pieces look kind of different from my original object, and they are moved to the next layer in my blender file. Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I can't seem to finish the animation. Here is my blend file: [LINK]
