Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it
Blender Stack Exchange users link it when people ask how to make wood break or splinter realistically, as a reference for cell fracture and constraint settings.

What it is
A 22-minute Blender tutorial from 2013 by Blender HD showing how to destroy a piece of wood realistically. It combines the cell fracture add-on, Bullet physics and the Bullet Constraints Tools script to hold the pieces together until they break.

have you seen this tutorial [this video] ? What I would try to make it more realistic is to add more splinters, make them thinner and more scaled vertically, subdivide them in simple mode and use soft body physics to have them bend. May require quite some experimenting before getting a convincing result.

You may have a look at Cell Fracturing, either the standard in-build one or the standalone add-on version. There are many great tutorials for it on YouTube, too. Maybe you can adapt this tutorial from CGGeek? You only need to add a ground (rigid body, passive type), play with the shard settings (wood usually has a high number of long splinters) and maybe use an object to push the wood from behind instead of below. Also, no smoke sim needed, obviously. [LINK] Another (older) tutorial, could serve as a reference for settings: [this video]

I want to create a piece of cracking wood in blender for a project of mine, I made a blender-guru esque ball n' chain destruction setup, made a simple cell fracture wall, put a wood material on it, and that was it, but its pretty bad This is NOT how wood should break. [LINK] What im trying to do is create that wood "sharding" effect. Is there a good method to do this in blender 2.8? I found a tutorial for an older version using cell fracture, and thats better, but its not what im going for, it still looks like a piece of metal or concrete: [this video]
