Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange answerers point people to it when someone can't get texture painting working, especially in Cycles, since it walks through the basic setup of unwrapping, a new image and an image texture node.

Recommended by 5 people across 5 different months, 2016 to 2018.

What it is

A short Blender tutorial by Grant Abbitt that gives a quick-start introduction to texture painting in about three minutes, ending with a timelapse of a quick sketch. It covers unwrapping, creating an image, and painting onto a model using a graphics tablet.

Yep, in the end you're just attaching a texture to your shader, so the only difference is the UI while you're painting. This video has a good explanation of how to do it in Cycles: [this video] Short text version: the image node you have highlighted in the node graph is the one that gets painted into. Don't forget to manually save it!

When i looking your picture it's obvious you din't create a texture first and plug it in node editor for cycles. i'll will link a tutorial how to proceed Texture Painting | Quick start for cycles [this video]

One thing you can do is texture painting. That allows you to add different colors to your model and apply all of that color to the material of the object. Here's a good tutorial: [this video]

Texture Painting in Cycles is a bit different. You cannot just go in texture paint mode and start painting it. To start texture painting, Select the object you want to paint on and unwrap it. Give it a new material. Make it diffuse. [LINK] Go to Texture Paint mode and create a new paint slot. Change it to 'Diffuse Color'. In the pop-up menu, change it's dimensions to the dimensions of the texture you want and select the base color. Click OK. [LINK] Start Painting! This [this video] might also help you.

As far as I know, you can draw lines (and freehand curves) not rectangles on a mesh. Here's tutorial on hand painting a mesh: [this video]

So I just started learning how to texture paint and am following this tutorial ( [this video] ) I followed everything up to the point where you add the image texture node. When I add it, the image remains pink instead of turning black. Is there anything that's normally expected when texture painting that I missed? [LINK]

I followed numerous tutorials, but no matter how much I click in the 3d view, the texture does not change. I made a new image, unwrapped it, and added a new texture node. This is the video I watched [this video]

I originally followed this tutorial [this video] where it outlines smart unwraping as part of the UV creation process. I started from scratch, and instead of doing the smart unwrap with island spacing, I just did an unwrap (more like one of the posts [LINK] I looked at) and things now work as expected. The only downside is that some of the geometry has warped into very small triangles on the PNG file, but this isn't (in this case) a big issue. PLY's still don't embed the data, but that's a problem for another day :)
