Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users point people to it as a beginner-friendly walkthrough of smoke simulation, both in answers and as the tutorial that askers followed when their own smoke setups failed.

Recommended by 2 people across 2 different months, 2017 to 2020.

What it is

A 15-minute Blender tutorial by Polyfjord on setting up and rendering smoke simulations in Cycles using the Quick Smoke effect. It covers animating the emitter, camera and lighting, rendering and exporting, and finishing in After Effects. It was made for Blender 2.79 and behaves differently in 2.80 and later.

Don't worry! Admitedly, I'm still confused about your fluid simulation not working out, since it does on my machine. Does this behavior happen with a new file as well, or is it specific to this very project? For the smoke shader, no, a transparent shader will not do. Here [this video] Is a great tutorial which got me started on smoke simulations. I'd give the whole thing a watch!

I guess the method depends on the level of realism you want, for realism you should probably try smoke (tutorials here [LINK] by Iago Mota and here [this video] by Polyfjord). I've tried to fake it with the Principled Volume node in 2.8: You need to create a cube that you subdivide smooth. Give it a Subdivision Surface modifier. It's your first cloud. Plug Principled Volume > Volume socket of the Material Output . Play with the Principled Density value to change its transparency. Plug Noise > MixRGB > Color socket of the Principled so that the surface of the cloud is a bit textured. Plug 2 Musgrave (or other textures) > Math ( Add mode) > Displacement node > Displacement socket of the Material Ou

I just started Blender, and I'n new to 3d modeling softwares. I followed an awesome tutorial about smoke simulation tutorial ( [this video] ). I followed the tutorial until the end, I worked in Cycles Render and everything seems to work alright. But after I hit the render animation button it wil do 250 frames only with the object itself, and the smoke doesn't show at all. I don't know exactly what and why is happening and where did I do wrong. If you guys could help me out with some answers or where to look or what to pay attention it would be awesome. I will leave one of the frames rendered and the file. Thank you. [LINK] [LINK]

Whenever I add a Quick Smoke effect, I can't preview it on the viewport unless I bake it. And Yes, I added the Smoke Domain on the object. I've seen tutorials like this [this video] and this [LINK] that clearly shows the possibility of previewing the smoke before baking it. I'm using Blender on a Mac with AMD GPU. I would guess that this is something related to OpenGL, as thoroughly explained here - Why is the smoke preview not showing in Blender's viewport? [LINK] but that's for Windows. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
