Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange answerers point people to it when someone needs to model solid, stylized hair as curve-based mesh instead of using the particle hair system, or wants a stylized hair material.

Recommended by 3 people across 4 different months, 2018 to 2022.

What it is

A 20-minute Blender tutorial by Pancake_Manicure on modeling stylized hair with NURBS and bezier curves, including how to swap the bevel curve for different strand profiles. It also covers building a procedural hair material using the automatic UV generation that Blender hides by default.

If you don't want to use a hair particle system you need to model hair as a mesh. Here are two tutorials that go into the details of this kind of workflow: [this video] [LINK] In a nutshell: You need to model the hair as a mesh, just like the head and and other solid object. Non-destructive editing (via modifiers) would save a lot of time and give some flexibility make changes later. In 1st video I have shared a fairly classic method of hair modelling is described; a curve to determine the flow of hair and another curve to serve as profile. I think working on a single clump of hair (as described there) is a great start. Also you can check out this tutorial for making a stylistic hair material: [L

take a look at this video and tell me if it helps [this video] OMG I'm a 100% sure I've watched a guy that used something to get exactly where u want but I don't remember what video it was... (complete character, hair, I don't know, it wasn't about hair shaders tho) I think it was Yan sculpts;

Hey I think I found the video I told to you about, the guy uses anisotropic shader. Have a look, he talks about it at 14:10. [this video]

Have you tried extruded curves aka hair tubes? Just beware the result can get fairly high-poly with these curves and there can be a lot of intersections. Videos: Hair with Curves [this video] and The Many Ways to Poly-Model Hair [LINK]

I am trying to model some hair using bezier curves as per the technique shown here: [this video] Curves are mapped to the head, put into place with the handles, and given a bevel object. After having a ...thrilling time watching every attempt at modeling the hair crash (update to 2.79.6 fixed the issue), I came across a conundrum rather than a problem. I want to make hair movement accessible via shape keys, such as a predefined shape suggesting that wind is affecting the hair. The thing though, is that while I get nice results from forming the key, the hair grows out. This is not a major issue since I can, you know, reshape it with proportional editing and all, but that is time consuming. Is ther

Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate. I have checked similar posts and their alleged duplicates, but have not seen/understood any answers (EG: Noise texture node is not available [LINK] ). I am following a tutorial ( [this video] @ 11:54) and it would appear that I am missing a vanilla node called Noise Texture, used to add "random" colour variety into textures. I have pressed Shift+A to bring up the node search menu and not found a Noise Texture. I have selected the Materials button, so that alone cannot be the issue. This is in Blender 2.79b. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. [LINK]

Here is a script that reads the data file and creates the strands of the hair mesh. [LINK] The script is straightforward. It reads the file, checks the number of strands, then reads them one by one and creates the edges of the strands. Empty roots will be skipped. To run the script, go to the Scripting workspace and select menu Text > New to create a new text data block. Then copy & paste the script. Adjust the path of the directory for the data files and the ID that defines which of the files you want to import. Finally, press the run button. If something goes wrong you need to check the system console (main menu Window > Toggle System Console ). Keep in mind that a hairstyle can have up to
