Blender Intermediate Modelling Tutorial - Part 1
Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it
Blender Stack Exchange users point people to it when they need to learn clean topology and subdivision surface modelling, and many askers also cite it as the tutorial they were following when a problem appeared.

What it is
Part 1 of Andrew Price's Blender Guru intermediate modelling series, in which he builds an anvil from a reference photo set. It covers the early blocking and shaping of the model and leads into later parts on topology, booleans and subdivision.

Check this tutorial of blender guru 4 parts: [this video] and if you are going to 3D print it's ok if you got parts that overlap though it's better if you model it right without using the Boolean modifier

on another note ... if you plan on using subdivision, consider reducing the edges of the zylinder to about 12 or even less. If you integrate it correctly subdivision will take care of the rest. See this tutorial series: [this video]

Boolean operations always messes with the topology of the mesh, you can go around this in some ways, but the best practice is to invest in understanding topology, and how to create the best topology for Your model. In this Example, I would make the model without the boolean modifier and do something like this: Without subsurf [LINK] With subsurf, and edge crease on the edges to create sharp edges. [LINK] If you want to learn about topology, the anvil series [this video] by Blender Guru is quite good. He also addresses the issues with the boolean modifier and the topology (in part 2) [LINK] . I have taken online courses, and supplied with youtube and good ol' fashioned trial and error. A good, free and fast way to learn basic modelling would be the anvil series by Andrew Price: [this video]

You are confusing extrusion e and grabbing g . While extrusion generates new geometry, grabbing and rotation just displaces or rotates existing geometry. The portion of the video you mention uses grabbing g and rotating r , thus creating no new geometry. To delete vertices you don't want, you can just press x or undo. Please keep in mind, that there is an object mode undo and an edit mode undo. Remove doubles only works when vertices are in the same place (share x,y,z coordinates) otherwise you can only use x . PS: You probably never need to start from scratch, your mesh can be cleaned up quite easily. Modelling a human head can be very challenging, I would suggest you put this on hold and d

You are probably wanting to use the subdivision surface modifier with creases, it has many quirks though, you will need to learn how it works. Follow this, it's from an older version of Blender but it has everything you will need. [this video]

I'm following Blender guru's Anvil tutorial [this video] . After using Boolean I cleaned up the extra vertices. Edge flow looks fine on my mesh. However, when I apply a Subdivision Surface modifier my mesh becomes really messy as if something is wrong with the edge flow. Can you guys help spot the problem? I'm learning Blender and following Blender Guru's Intermediate Modeling Tutorial [this video] to make an anvil. I made a small mistake and had a duplicate vertex that could not be cleared by the Remove Double Vertices tool for whatever reason, so I went in and deleted it myself then restored the face. However, the new face now has sharp edges that won't subdivide and I don't understand why. I've attached a screenshot that will hopefully provide a little more context. I'm referring to the two faces on the tip of the horn of the anvil, relatively centered in the viewport. The edges are sharp and I'm trying to round it to a point. You may also see a similar issue happening at the corners of the high

I've been following the Blender Guru anvil modeling tutorial series [this video] , and I've finished the first 4 parts, which only includes modeling and fixing some topology. After I finished modeling, I decided to apply a basic material to see how it would look, but somehow the cutout and the bottom of the mesh are not showing it. I've tried everything I could think of short of starting from scratch, and it's driving me crazy! Here (link) [LINK] is my blend file, I'd appreciate it if y'all could take a look. [LINK] [LINK]
