Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it

Blender Stack Exchange users link it because they are working through the donut tutorial's geometry nodes section and get stuck on sprinkles, vertex group density, and weight painting, and answerers also cite it as a primer on scattering objects.

What it is

Part 9 of Blender Guru's Blender 3.0 beginner donut series, in which Andrew Price uses Geometry Nodes and the new fields system in 3.0 to build a simple scattering setup for the donut's sprinkles. It is a 31-minute follow-along tutorial covering distributing points on the icing, instancing a sprinkle object, and controlling density with a vertex group.

As well as @GordonBrinkmann's great answer below, it's also worth watching the geometry nodes section of Blender Guru's donut tutorial here [this video] .

I was watching Blender Guru Blender 3.0 Beginner Geometry Nodes Tutorial (Donut part 9) [this video] and I must select a vertex group for GeometryNodes modifier but I can't it. I am Following Blender Guru's new " blender 3.0 " Donut tutorial and on Episode 9 [this video] , I have followed everything but IDK where I am Missing because My sprinkles are clipping through the icing . Anyone can please check my blend file and tell me what I am doing wrong. Rendered Image [LINK] Blend File [LINK]

[LINK] I am following the Blender 3.0 Tutorial: Donut part 9/10 [this video] . I created a second mesh to practice on, but the sprinkles look kind of flattened. I don´t know why. I tweaked the Scale Settings in Instance on Points to get it right. On my first try in the back you can see that the sprinkles barely touch the icing.

I'm following the tutorial on Youtube and I'm currently having a problem. My problem starts at 11:30 of the video which I will leave it below, from Scale -> Apply to Scale when I try to reference the Cylinder as sprinkles of the donut. The reference Cylinder is always smaller than the actual one. The only way for me to increase the size of the Object Geometry is either by increasing the Scale on the Instances on the Points node or increasing the scale of the original Cylinder. What's wrong and how do I fix this? Image of the error: [LINK] Video tutorial: [this video]

I hope this question will be welcomed here from a true beginner. It's a very specific problem, and I have a suspicion that I know the answer. But I'm new enough to know that I know absolutely nothing, so I want to try every avenue before giving up and starting this section over. I'm on part 9 of the Blender Guru donut tutorial - geometry nodes. The good news: everything has been going swimmingly so far. I've started the tutorial over several times to reinforce the concepts and have enjoyed the process despite some minor setbacks. This step is the furthest I've gotten - my render looked awesome at the end of the tutorial video, I was feeling confident, then I realized...I had somehow inadvert

You want to use vertex groups (weight paint) to control where items are distributed. While in Edit Mode, choose Weight Paint Paint the area red where you want to distribute items In the Vertex Group properties section, name your weights (here, "Weights") Back in Geometry Nodes, drag the "Density" from Distribute Points on Faces to the Group Input. This will allow you to choose the vertex group. In the Geometry Node modifier, a new input will be added. Clear out the existing text and click in it. It will show the available vertex groups (here, "Weights" at the bottom. Back in Geometry Nodes, if you change the distribution to Poisson Distribution you can adjust the amount of items. I'm following the donut tutorial by blender guru ( [this video] ) and now I'm stuck on the weight painting. I'm quite sure that I followed the tutorial: added a new vertex group to the icing mesh (maybe this would not be needed if everything would just work?!) changed to weight paint mode the icing of the donut is blue but when I now click anywhere in the blue mesh nothing happens. No weights are painted Interestingly when I choose the gradient tool I see weights painted - but no other tool in the weight painting mode seems to do anything. Isn't the left mouse button meant to do the painting? Do I need to use some other keys? You can find the blend file here: [LINK] - I already realized that the
