Fast Character Modeling with the Skin Modifier in Blender
Why Blender Stack Exchange recommends it
Blender Stack Exchange answerers point people to it when they need to learn or troubleshoot modelling with the Skin modifier, since it shows the techniques and shortcuts such as Ctrl A scaling.

What it is
A roughly 24-minute Blender tutorial by Joey Carlino showing how to build a full character quickly using the Skin modifier. It covers setup, building the body from vertices, hands, muscles, proportional editing, armature, sculpting, eyes, posing tips and materials.

I'd suugest you go through Joey Carlino's initial skin modifier tutorial [this video] which will teach you how to model figures from scratch using the skin modifier.

You can't because faces and edges don't actually exist until you've applied the skin modifier. Suggest you watch Joey Carlino's YT video [this video] on modelling with the skin modifier.

When using the Skin Modifier, use Ctrl A to scale a vertex. Joey Carlino has some good YT videos on modelling with the Skin Modifier. This one [this video] is about character modelling, but shows all the techniques and shortcuts that you can use.

Still fine increasing the viewport level right up to 6 with no visible changes apart from smoothness. Levels of 2 or 3 are the normal levels to use when modelling with the skin modifier. What tutorial are you following? - Joey Carlino has several detailed modelling tutorials using that system, for instance this one [this video] .

So I am following a tutorial about character modeling ( [this video] ). The basis consists of simple vertex and edges combined with the skin modifier and subdivision. When fingers come into play, my take on this looks like this... [LINK] When it should look rather like this... [LINK] So is there a way to make the fingers thinner? I couldn´t find anything like that in the modifiers.

How can we make the mesh to match what we actually see in 3d? I watched a tutorial where they only create a human form by extruding a single point as if a skeleton and around the skeleton it shows the 3d object, and I cannot make modifications like I want to it now. [this video] [LINK] I want the inner skeleton which are just a bunch of dots connected with lines, to match the outer 3d looking body.
